Kenny202 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Just wondering if anyone can tell me how these alcohol free days work. I went out tonight to our local bar area thinking the no booze day was tomorrow but everything was shut tonight? I googled it and says the alcohol free day is 11th, tomorrow. Is it some weird time like 18.00 today until 18.00 tomorrow or something?
scubascuba3 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Depends if in a tourist area or not where alcohol is OK. In Pattaya bars are open but the usual shops seem to be not selling alcohol until 6pm 11th 1
Mutt Daeng Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Where I live (Buriram) there are local elections on Sunday, which normally means an alcohol sales ban from 6pm Saturday until 6pm Sunday. Also Visaka Bucca day on Sunday which normally means an alcohol sales ban from midnight Saturday till midnight Sunday. So no alcohol sales from 6pm Saturday till after midnight Sunday. 1
Gsxrnz Posted May 10 Posted May 10 They just gazetted a law change on 9 May. Many "Buddha" days have been exempted from the previous alcohol sales ban in airports and "tourist zones". In typical Thai fashion, the translation of the order is suitably confusing. But the local Pattaya interpretation is that bars and clubs are open as usual on Sunday, but sales at 7/11 may/will be restricted. This is Thailand - roll with the punches.
Kenny202 Posted May 11 Author Posted May 11 Yes that explains it, election here too and Buddha day tomorrow. All of our bars are shut. I am sure my missus plans her trips back to the village around these "no play" periods 😵💫 1

KhunBENQ Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Always a bit difficult to interpret today/tomorrow. Simply: it's now Monday, May 12th. No more booze ban. Substitute holiday (government / Immigration closed). Practically no other implications. Not sure about banks. Buddhist holiday and local elections were yesterday, Sunday May 11th.
