So here we are again, eh? After Trump stompin’ round like King Kong feisty in the loins, needing to get a leg over, bashin’ out tariffs like he’s throwin’ chairs at a wedding, guess what? The big trade war with China’s just been quietly swept under the rug like your nan’s cat sick. Tariffs slashed, handshakes all round, and not a sniff of that “America First” guff left in the air.

Used to be 145% whacked on imports, now it’s back down to 10. China’s dropped theirs from 125% to 10 too. What was the bloody point? That’s not a victory lap, mate, that’s a sheepish U-turn on a motorway. All them months of shoutin’ about bringin’ back jobs, makin’ America rich again, turns out it was all wind and biscuits. No one’s richer, no one’s wiser, no new Yankee factories ever go get built and the only thing made in America lately is excuses.

I was down the chippy last night, queue’s out the door, and some Trump geezer in a red cap, camo shorts and sh*t kicker boots pipes up, “This trade war showed China we mean business.” I said, “Mate, the only thing it showed is your lot’ll torch your own house just to warm your hands for five minutes.” He shut up sharpish after that and stared into his battered saveloy like it held the answers.

Look, all we got outta this nonsense was inflation, shortages, and blokes crying over the price of PlayStations, coffee and avocados. Meanwhile, China’s still doin’ their thing, buildin’ spaceships and playin’ 8D chess while America’s stuck replayin’ the same game of hop-scotch.

And now they’ve agreed to “talk more.” Talk? That’s it? After years of economic bungee jumping without a cord? It’s like watching a bloke pick a fight in a pub, throw a few punches, get a black eye, and then buy his opponent a pint. All that noise for nothing. Trade war, my arse. It wasn’t a war. It was a pub brawl that ended with both sides back at the bar pretendin’ it never happened.

But don’t worry, lads. Trump says it’s all part of the plan. And if you believe that, I’ve got a lovely Corona bridge in Wuhan to sell ya. Comes with free tariffs and a side of Covid.

Just goes to show must how little you know about it.

You take trans' place as the AN clown 🤡🤡🤡

Think of all the insiders that he leaked his cave to that made billions from this grift.

The SEC will prosecute them?
NO!

The corrupt Trump castrated the SEC.

Yeah, they were all over Pelosi prior to Trump taking office.

All the leftists claiming they knew Trump was going to cave, and at the same time claiming it was insider trading.

Too funny

Well, it looks like President Trump has done it again with his wining the trade war.  The master and author of the "Art of The Deal." Of course the left wing socialists are never happy with winning, or as a matter of fact, never happy with anything. But the truth be told and the facts are the facts no matter how hard the left tries to smear Trump's winning. The stock market is swooning as of this writing and the U.S. dollar is king again. Winner take all and the left wing zealots are crying in their Bud Lights.

Right then, Lewie mate, listen here. I ain't sayin' ol’ Trump’s the Messiah or nowt, but come off it—ya makin’ him out like he’s some drunken yob flailin’ round the market square with no plan in sight. But what you ain't gettin’, right, is that sometimes you gotta rattle the cage a bit to let folks know you ain't a mug.

Yeah, tariffs were slapped down hard, fair play, but it weren’t about keepin’ 'em forever. It was about lettin’ China know we ain’t just gonna sit there gettin’ bent over every trade deal like it’s karaoke night at the G7. Trump don’t do quiet diplomacy. He does loud, messy, smash-a-pint-glass diplomacy—and sometimes that’s exactly what gets people payin’ attention.

You moanin’ about how tariffs got dropped back down—but how d’you reckon they got to that point, eh? They didn’t just wake up in Beijing one day and go, “You know what, lads, let’s be fair to the Yanks.” Nah, they blinked. Trump forced their hand. It’s like pokin’ a pit bull till it stops barkin’ and actually sits. Not pretty, but it bloody worked.

And don’t start on “no factories got built.” That’s codswallop. Loads of manufacturers started thinkin’ twice about keepin’ everything over in China. Some jobs did come back. Ain’t gonna turn back four decades of offshorin’ in four years, is it? He ain’t Harry Potter.

And your saveloy mate in the queue—bet he’s got more clue than you think. Least he ain’t cheerin’ for a system that had us bent over a barrel for years. Better to try and make a point—even if it’s loud and messy—than just smile while gettin’ fleeced.

So yeah, call it a pub brawl if ya like. But sometimes you need a bit of a dust-up before both sides realise they’d rather have a pint and sort things out. Least Trump had the stones to throw the first punch, instead of just standin’ there singin’ Kumbaya with his trousers round his ankles.

You ever thought maybe the reason he gets up your nose so much is 'cause he actually did something? Go on then, who’d you have preferred? Someone who just keeps lickin’ China’s boots and hopin’ for a discount on iPhones?

Many of us knew Trump would cave in to China. They had all the cards and he over played his hand to such an embarrassing degree. He is such an ill informed goon. He is in so far over his big head.

A smart guy like you and you dont understand how negations work??

How did he cave? or did China cave?

The Trump administration has been saying for weeks that they are waiting on China to talk about tariff's,

So he's been waiting for China to come to the table to talk about things.

I think it's just more that you dont like Trump.

I feel sorry for the people that hate or dislike trump so much that no matter what happens its wrong or a problem.

Friends stop talking to each other because one is a trump supporter and the other isn't. Even family members not talking to each other.

It's crazy. It's like,  if I love Cholate ice cream and you hate it therefore you hate me.

Do I like Trump,  No, I think he's a loud mouth, look at me, I'm the best, know everything type of guy.

However, He doing what's needed to be done for a long time.  It's not just about the tariffs itself, it's actually allowing markets to open.

This wasn't just China, look at Australia they have banned imports of beef from the USA for decades with a lame excuse of mad cow disease.

Meanwhile millions of US citizens eat the same beef with no issues, UK, Germany, France etc had tariff's on US products.

We had free trade agreements but it seemed it was only one-way.

You as an expat in Thailand should understand how Thailand puts tariff's on everything and makes it difficult for expats to do business in Thailand. (Granted being a USA citizen was actually a benefit in Thailand, as I was able to own more than 49% - but that was it, I still had all the other issues being an expat running a business)

Same goes with China, but China makes it even more impossible with all the bureaucracy.   So it's not just about tariff's.

UK trade deal - A big nothing burger.

China trade deal - 10% tariffs on both sides. Net back to the way it was before. Another and even bigger nothing burger.

Release of an American hostage - 4 Americans were already released under Biden. Lots of catching up still to do. Get with it.

Ceasefire with India and Pakistan - There was never a war. Just two small drone strikes. And Trump had nothing to do with the halting of that.

Ceasefire with Houthis - At the peril of Israel. Bad move.

Nothing ever wil be good with the derangenant posse

The US has an $11.9 billion annual surplus with the UK but it is the UK that is freeloading and needs tariffs applied. China should have tariffs because of the trade deficit. The UK should have tariffs applied because of the trade surplus. The US should trade fairly or not at all. Sorry US you can't have it both ways.

Same goes with China, but China makes it even more impossible with all the bureaucracy.   So it's not just about tariff's.

It's Trump who started the tariff war, not China. China has always been reacting. Trump puts tariffs, China puts tariffs, Trump decreases tariffs, China decreases tariffs. Trump was waiting for Xi's call, he did not call. I don't remember China saying they would not negotiate. Actually, the real negotiations will be starting now that tariffs have been lowered.

As to "one-way" trade deals are you unaware that the U.S. also had special tariffs on specific goods, as well as several non-tariff barriers.  Are you unaware that there was no Buy European Act, or Buy Australian Act? (China is a different case, they were not really playing by the rules).

The current situation with China is that there are still tariffs, albeit lower. The U.S. seems to have an advantage with 30% tariffs against 10% applied by China. However, it's only on paper as the Chinese economy is controlled by the State and the CCP can decide about imports to a large extent.

The main problem with China is the level of economies of scale it can achieve thanks to the size of its domestic market. We are already feeling their impact for goods such as solar panels, EV, Telecommunications equipment, etc... There is no way the U.S. alone can match this level of economies of scale alone on long-term (and possibly on middle-term too). The only way to reach a sufficient level of economies of scale is with allies, allies that Trump is attacking in the same way he's attacking China. The TIPP and TPP were moves in that direction, but Trump 1.0 trashed them.
