A 24-year-old police cadet was found dead on the afternoon of 12 May, after reportedly taking his own life by hanging beneath a bridge over the Loei River in the province’s capital.

At approximately 14:00, Pol. Lt. Booncherd Kongkert, an investigator at Mueang Loei Police Station, was alerted to the discovery of a body hanging under the Loei River bridge in Kut Pong Subdistrict. Rescue workers from the Dewa Foundation and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities found a set of personal belongings near the bridge, including a wallet, identification documents, clothing, and a pair of shoes. The deceased was identified as Mr Chawakorn, a 24-year-old student at the Provincial Police Training School Region 4 in Khon Kaen.

Etched into the ground near the site was a distressing message: “I’ve tried many times. I’m sorry. I’m sad.”

The body was discovered hanging from a metal railing under the bridge using black nylon trousers as a makeshift rope. The deceased was wearing only black underwear at the time. Rescue teams retrieved the body from the river. A preliminary examination by medical staff revealed no signs of struggle or external injuries. The estimated time of death was approximately 30 minutes before discovery.

According to investigators, Mr Chawakorn was originally from Dan Sai District in Loei Province and had been assigned to begin a training placement at Mueang Loei Police Station the following day. Tragically, he died before his placement could begin.

The police are in the process of notifying his family and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. The body has been sent to Loei Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
