Man Found Alive After Being Swept Away by Flash Flood in Wang Nam Khiao

A man reported missing after being swept away by a flash flood in Wang Nam Khiao district, Nakhon Ratchasima, has been found alive, much to the relief of rescuers and the local community.

The incident occurred on the evening of 10 May, following prolonged heavy rainfall caused by a summer storm. The rain triggered sudden flash floods in the Udomsap subdistrict. At approximately 20:00, local residents contacted Hook 31 rescue services in Udomsap after witnessing a man, aged 60, being carried away by powerful floodwaters while attempting to push his motorcycle across a submerged causeway near Wat Huai Phrom, between Moo 4 and Moo 8 villages.

Due to the strength of the current and poor visibility at night, no one dared to intervene at the time. Emergency responders were immediately dispatched but encountered difficulty locating the man due to unclear coordinates, darkness, and the widespread presence of fast-moving floodwaters.

Rescuers deployed thermal drones in an attempt to detect a heat signature, but the search was called off at 23:30, after no signs of the man were found.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, on the morning of 12 May, villagers informed rescue personnel that the missing man had been found alive, along with his motorcycle. According to reports, he had clung to his bike and used it to shield himself from the force of the current as he struggled to reach the opposite bank and pull both himself and his motorcycle out of the water. His quick thinking and determination enabled him to survive the terrifying ordeal. He was unaware of the rescue operation.
