Yamaha warranty on second-hand bike

Featured Replies

The Yamaha dealership here in Krabi is refusing to honor the bikes warranty.

Because I didn't buy the bike there....thstd their reason. What?

I checked before buying that Yamaha allows the bike warranty to be transferred. Fine. Great. I bought it on the premise

But because I didn't buy at this dealer AND I dint have the service record book.. The warranty is VOID... because I have no proof that the bike was maintained beforehand.

Damn.

I doubt if any dealer will honour the warranty without proof of regular maintenance as prescribed. That's a standard on all vehicle warranties.

Yes, I believe this is the case too...

Saying that, they usually put all their service data into their computer, and any dealer can access it. So can buy from one place but service in another etc.

However, they use the lack warranty service book as excuse to not honor warranties. To be honest though, if the bike was serviced at Yamaha regularly it would have come with the service book..., but worth asking to check on computer..., give them the green book to check (say I just want fir my information, to see what was done...!)

It is the policy at that particular dealership. Red Baron Bangkok used to be like that. Didn't buy it here.....and that was for any work not warranty .

Repairs are cheap here so as long as it is not a really serious failure.

Well... after a few friendly conversations sprinkled with "I'll be staying in this town several years".. they honored the warranty. Gave me a brand new service book and filled in all the items that were performed. Phew. I was worried for a bit...
