Just make your own,

50bht at Makro for 500g dried white beans.

44bht for 600g Rosa tomato sauce.

Rehydrate the beans, mixing 1/2 the Rosa = 1.5kg of baked beans for 72bht.

Can you freeze them?

Exactly. And they'll taste better too.

Why would you question my question?

Because it's a forum, and I can't fathom why someone would want to eat baked beans!

Talking of bargains. Look what I scooped up at my local Big C today. Not enough foreigners here so they had about 15 boxes for sale. Cheap as chips !

You did notice the sell by date though, right? June 25. Normally they have at least a year on them.

(Yes, I am sure they can last beyond that depending on how they've been stored).

I believe I said I wanted to freeze them - nothing about eating:offtopic:

Extremely popular in the UK as a quick snack, meal, or as an accompaniment. Brits eat more of them than anyone.

You might not like them, but each to their own.

I get very sad reading threads like this. So many of you cooking with substandard products and talking about how good canned food is and all the bargains. Are you really calling the things you cook and eat real food. It´s delicious, right?

Here is the right way, or the better way, as it at least start to include something we can call ingredients. However, still a little bit sceptic to the Rosa tomato sauce, though.

$2 a can for beans Lord save me.

Checking Walmart online they charge 29.99 for 12 can or 46.95 for 24.

That´s a price between 1,95 - 2.50 USD per can. Sure, maybe you can find it much cheaper. Let´s say you find it for 1.20. How much do you think it cost to transport? After that, the shop should be able to pay their people working and all other costs.

Checking UK, the same can has a price of 1,40 GBP at Sainsbury´s according to online sources. If i check my own home country, Sweden. Then the price in supermarket vary from equivalent in usd 1.20 - 1.44.

Since the ingredients are not the same (USA vs EU) along with any tariffs (?), one can't expect the price, taste or quality, to be the same.   Whole food, home cooking is always best IMHO

More than a few links & info here, if curious about my statement ...

Tomato sauce is usually a better choice than ketchup, if making your own...

"Ketchup has more vitamin B2; however, tomato sauce has more iron and vitamin B5.

Ketchup's daily need coverage for sodium is 39% more.

Ketchup has 6 times more sugar than tomato sauce. Ketchup has 21.27g of sugar, while tomato sauce has 3.56g.

Tomato sauce is lower in sodium."

I dont shop at Walmart, and I make no general statement as to the grocery business, import/export rules, the price of eggs in Tibet. Rather, its just the thought of ANYWHERE paying $2 for beans.

You can make enough baked beans from scratch to fart out the Stratford End for $2. I guess when you are recovering from a Newcastle Bank Holiday though, you dont want to wait for the Missus to bake 'em, neh? Crack open a can.

Hmmm, you don´t seem to read well. In the same post you quoted, It also stood that making them yourself was the right way. Why do you them assume, I want to crack a can, then?
