Is there prostitution in Pattaya?

Does Pattaya have an image?

Does this article imply that after a police Walking Street check, which found no prostitution, prostitution has now sprung to life in Pattaya?

The fact that this crackdown is happening now, must mean it is low season.

It's ignorant comments like this that harm Thailand.

Nothing to do with culture, it's political.

I'd say most of the prostitutes are working in the sex industry for survival.

In the west the government would provide social security and welfare payments (thousands of dollars after the birth) for these young mothers, government would garnish the fathers wages, the woman may be on maternity leave, she has income but sadly in Thailand these very POOR young woman (girls) have no money to support herself and her baby.

Most times the father has abandoned her, these girls have no one to turn to for support, sadly they make wrong decisions in life.

Again, these girls/young mothers, Thailand has failed these young people, at times they have no option but to work in the sex industry.

Shame on Thailand for not providing for these young mothers.

Quite a few do it because they are lazy and it can be good fun and lucrative.

Personally I admire those working in factories or or markets for a pittance. They prefer hard work over fun based sex work

Yes there is, but most of it is regulated.

Yes, as a place to find girls, boys and in-between.

No, the article is about arresting prostitutes soliciting on Beach Road.  It's nothing new and happens regularly.

Maybe, but it's happened in high season too/

I am knowing personally two pattaya prostitues.

They was mothers, with husbands and childreen.

They have had jobs. And a normal life, ín the village.

They went pattaya, for make their fortune.

Have got big money for selling their body, and have got a rich farsang, for long time support.

They was not send, or sell.

Very rare, whose are enforced into the prostitue business.

Thai people are thinking, that is a job.

This is really great and I'm happy for you. Your case seems to be the exception rather than the rule as you probably well know. Having lived in LOS for about 8 years you hear ALL the stories of farangs getting taken to the cleaners marrying bar girls. I remember talking to an Irishman on the Pattaya Bangkok bus lines 10 years ago or so. Sobbing most of the way to Bangkok. Did the typical marriage thing, bought here a house in her name with most of his money  blah blah. She kicked him out and took it all.

It is a bit like playing Russian Roulette, with 4 or 5 bullets in the chambers.

The odds are not very good for you.

This operation is to curb street prostitution only, which is made up of girls who have criminal convictions for violence or some illness. The trouble prostitutes. Given the recent spate of troublesome incidents this clean up was brought about by the very violent street prostitutes themselves.

Those working in bars and clubs will not be touched.

Transgender is Ladyboy right? Since when has this forum started using leftover/progressive terminology?

its always been about prostitution in Pattaya

the only thing thats changed is there are more violent transgenders, and the hookers are now fat, when they used to be gorgeous

The change that I have noticed is that on this forum Ladyboys are being called transgender or other modern western, woke variations but I don't understand why.

I agree when people ask me why I'm living in Thailand or why a gravitated to Thailand I tell them the reason I love staying in Thailand is my love of ancient architecture. My love of Sukhothai design is lifelong. The older ones with the Khmer influence are especially appealing to me. I have been to Wat Mahathat 30 times. The influence of Singhalese, with the Lotus bud chedi, ( a symbol of purity and Divine birth) and the four images of the Buddha, are profound. I especially like the Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo in Si Satchanalai. I am also deeply drawn to the Hariphunchai architecture found in the Sukhotahi Historical park. I used to travel to Bagan in Burma often. It is not possible now, but the Pahtothamya Temple is one of my favorites, with the 11th century paintings of sea creatures.

This shuts them up quickly. They look at me like I am from another planet. Wow. I had no idea you were so passionate about archaeology.

But is this actually true, spidermike007? 🤔

What they don't seem to understand is that you cannot protect Pattaya's image, you cannot worry about hurting the image of a place that already has a horrific reputation.

It does not have a " horrific reputation" as you suggest. Not at all. Maybe for those men who hang out all the time around Soi Buakhao and the like but that's just a tiny part of Pattaya, soon to be gone, alas.

My very respectable family have started coming here to visit me and they love it. My elderly; Catholic; ultra respectable sisters in their 70s and 80s would not recognise the place you're talking about. I'm sorry to disabuse you of the notion you hold of Pattaya.

Why not? I have been to Pattaya 17 times, and have never been to a bar

Well, Pattaya will probably change in a not so distant future i would say. It's done its time and it's getting worn out. And, as Bob once said, "the times they are changing". And they are. Take a city like Paris. It was once considered "the Brothel of the world". Prostitution was everywhere and  a long-standing feature of Parisian life, with great visibility and integration into the leisure and tourism industries (of that time of course, between the 19th and first half of the 20th century). and then someone came, and ...(almost) gone...

The long-standing position of the Thai police is that prostitution does not exist in Pattaya because private arrangements between women and expats does not fit the definition of prostitution. If you insist on defining your own terms, suppose they have a point.

Are you suggesting the conference attendees don't really come for the hookers?

I did not  go to Pattaya for the diseased prostitutes, nor did my colleagues go to Pattaya for the diseased prostitutes.People I know who have attended events and conferences, often came with their spouses or partners. I doubt that they spent their time seeking out Pattaya's prostitutes.

Yes, in many countries,  trade shows, and conventions often have attendees who use the services of sex workers. However, the reality of Thailand, is that  no one really needs to go to Pattaya find a sex worker as they are easily found in any urban setting. More specifically, the use of hookup apps changed the way the sex trade ddoes business.  Pattaya's beer bars and brothels are being left behind by technology.  Just as Lyft, Uber, and Grab revolutionized the taxi  sector, hook up apps  have transformed the sex trade.

The sex trade district of Pattaya is run down, and  caters to the lower end of the farang pool; These are the last people the people staying at the convention and trade show hotels like Hilton, Intercontinental, Dusit Thani, Marriott, and Centara wish to  mingle with. Pattaya's  sex tourism district(s) are dying. The bars are  copies of each other, distinguished only by their degree of filth, Younger visitors  and  people who are  higher positioned in the social hierarchy do not want to sit around on uncomfortable stained chairs, having each footstep stick to an equally filthy floor as they walk to a urine reeking lav, while unpleasant music from the 1970's blares. Pattaya's  sex tourism model is outdated. It's future lies with the event  visitor segment.
