i'm asking for a friend who's not computer literate and would please ask you only to post if you know the answer...

My pal has been living in pattaya for several years (Brit, aged 70) ...

He has always used the 800k in the bank method for his retirement extension, doing it himself at Soi 5 immigration ...

Over the last 12 months he has had a few health problems and has spent a fair chunk of the 800k and extension time is round the corner (no other money and not a huge amount of monthly income)...

He now needs to use an agent to assist him .....

People that are using an agent, and have done extensions in the last few months - can you tell me what he will need ? heard rumours that need proof of mobile phone in his name ? and a Bangkok bank account needed with loads of hoops to jump through (he only had a K Bank account, would that suffice) ?  what price did you pay, what agent did you loose and what was actually involved ?

Thanks in advance

If he's been doing extensions on his own, he clearly has a thai bank account, AND clearly has a mobile phone too

Thanks for the reply - yes has a (K Bank) bank account, wanting to know if anyone does extension with K Bank account, rather than Bangkok Bank ...

The mobile phone was started several years back and his ex girlfriend registered it in her name - how would that work ... ?

I cannot offer advise regarding agents, but he might just find this to be an issue. It's been well publicized that the registered names on bank accounts and the mobile number associated with the account must match.

He needs to get that sorted.

I'm guessing each agency will have their own rules.

Some may insist on Bangkok Bank, maybe others won't.

I would call several agencies to ask your questions and get a quote at the same time.

Prices will probably vary a lot too.

Agent in Pattaya will prefer/insist on BBL and specific branch.

To open an account is ~4700

Extension ~ 13k

There are no hoops.

Tell him to walk into an agent for first hand advice.

Soi 13/2 agent is handy off beach Rd and bank nearby.

Chinese neighbour had the same problem in Bkk. After considering an agent she opted for putting 1000 baht in the passport at immigration. Nothing was said and she got her extension

Some unhelpful grumpy people on this thread.

12,500 baht at Maneerat, Soi post office

Will need Bangkok Bank account for using an agent so an extra cost for the agent to set that up, perhaps around 6k, there have been issues lately so need to check if OK currently.

That's basically it, plus address.

Edit: as he already has a retirement extension he can go himself to Bangkok Bank and open an account. 2nd road, top of soi 6 is a good branch

I am calling b/s on this story. 👎

I have NEVER ever even HEARD of the officers at C/W taking money directly from a "customer", thru an intermediary, maybe, but @proton sorry, that's not a believable story

Samut Prakan not CW, could go on at CW, they are not going to advertise it are they. She lives 100 meters outside of Bkk so we often say Bkk

The OP has been given the very advice you posted.

I didn't read "grumpy people" replies

dont need a mobile number for an extension, although ur right, the sim must match the name for ur bank account
most banks gave you till april 20th or sol to sort that out

To get a extension using a agent u need
a passport
a Bank account
2 photos
12-25,000 baht

problem with the Pattaya agents, you need to travel to and wait in Pattaya till the extension is done which is a hassle Unless u live in Pattaya  🙂
Thai visa centre, you mail them ur passport, Plus can also use any bank & dont need mobile banking, for a little bit more baht.
100% reliable

No it won't.

In any event the guy lives in agent city. Has plenty of options in Pattaya

I don't understand why some posters make a big deal out of the guy having a bank account at "the wrong bank".

He currently has a valid 1-year extension, so he can walk into pretty much any bank and open a new account wherever it suits him, without any assistance from an agent.

It's tourists wanting to "convert" to a Non-O visa who have trouble opening an account, not someone who already has a longterm extension

You are missing the point.

Read post from @treetops has an agent print out.

In Pattaya agents prefer to work with particular bank.

Agents seem to work with Bangkok Bank, that's why

No, I understand that. What some don't seem to understand is that the OP's friend will have no trouble opening an account at the agent's preferred bank, without having to pay the agent extra to facilitate that.

It's nonsensical to tell the OP that opening the account will cost an extra 4.7k to 6k baht, THAT was my point.

The 4.7k is for bank insurance policy if that agent was used.

Indeed the guy may need to pay for the bank account.

At his age it would be 4.7k

He shouldn't need to pay for the bank account as he has a long stay visa/extension already

Well said !

Too many clever derks on here, that's for sure ....

"phone every agent in Pattaya" almost as bad as "why bother coming on the forum, when everything is available on Google" ..

i'd be guessing, but at age 70 - he's above the max age for their insurance ?

No.

As mentioned he can use various agents.

He can open a BBL account by himself.

Here is a chat with a Pattaya agent.

Especially when he already got a K Bank account .....

Although i've just learnt (PM - Thanks) is the reason BKK bank is pushed is that they will transfer money in and out immediately, whereas with K bank, it has to be done next day and there is fear the customer will withdraw the 800k and do a runner !  - If that's true, i can understand why ...

Not to hijack the subject in this thread, just a question. Is it legal to use an agent if you have, included the finances and all the other "copies", but are, to put it mildly, fed up with sitting in front of an authoritarian who is never helpful with applications but hides behind a uniform and uses it to show condescension towards applicants? Or does the applicant still have to show up in their office when using an agent?
