Saw something about this on a Facebook group. Apparently, tourist visa and DTV holders and others, who don't hold non-immigrant visas, this includes education visa holders (the ones who attend language schools and the like) are having their Thai bank accounts frozen?

While all is good on my end, I am concerned that this could have some far reaching implications for many people. 

 

Does anyone know whether this is happening on a widescale or if it's simply a case of someone having their account frozen because of inactivity and in his words, because he's a DTV visa holder?

I heard it was to be country wide, but one province at a time.

Can you be more specific? Clearly, you've heard something was going on but what exactly is happening?

I only heard the same thing as you, except that I heard it was tourist visas. I heard nothing about other visas.

Aha I see. Thanks for letting me know. Apparently some people on the FB group have stated they've been affected but only a small handful of reports. One of them because his account became dormant due to inactivity and thus wasn't able to re-activate it.

how would a bank know what visa somebody has,   they would need to ask all their customers on a regular basis   I think its rubbish personally, more scaremongering and chinese whispers

what banks allow tourist visa holders to get an account? I had to jump through hoops to get mine with a non-o at Bangkok Bank and they told me that was the only bank that would even do it.

Opening a bank account on tourist visa in past years was not difficult.

Also well know companies and agents provided that service.

Often with BBL that included insurance policy.

Bangkok Bank were one of the strictest and even folk with Non O often told to obtain a COR. 

In addition to thread being nonsense...what about folk that previously had extensions from a Non O and now have changed.

eg To tourist visa or DTV etc ..

Those accounts frozen. 

It's a nonsense
