Not only has coke a different color than coke, unless it was China White, but it also tastes completely different. A little taste beforehand goes a looooong way.

I thought that China White was heroin?

(Or "Golden Brown" as in the song).

I lived on the Kao San Rd in 1990 for a year. 50 baht a week, no AC and the walls didn't reach the ceiling. It was a fun place then but I believe it's been sanitized now. In those days you could buy all sorts including H. The Hello bar was open all night till 4 or 5 in the morning; plus it was full of girls; Thai girls AND the peripatetic European and American girls. It was a rocking joint. I'm not surprised to hear of these unfortunate & sad deaths. In my day it was about 45 ODs a year on the KSR.  It just goes to show that things don't really change.

Apparently nowadays some heroin is cut with Fentanyl.

SEAsia is possibly one of the worst places in the world to mess with drugs....for reasons ranging from penalties to poor quality.  In a land of fakes and knock offs just why?  I dont even trust the weed here.

As an old British friend used to say "In Thailand, everything's bent" (crooked).

“The tragedy isn't isolated. Rebecca’s untimely demise echoes previous losses, like the case last year in Laos, where six tourists perished from methanol-poisoned vodka.”

Sorry I don’t see the the similarities. In one some friends were legally drinking alcohol at a licensed establishment, that unbeknownst to them served them poisoned drink.

In this latest one the two people engaged privately in illegal drug use.

Chalk and cheese in my eyes

China White is indeed heroin and as the name implies, it is white and is produced in Asia, as opposed to the light brown color heroin normally has. I think in Asia they refine it one more step and that’s why it turns white, but I’m a bit foggy on the details. It’s also way less common than the brown variant, even during the golden age of H.

It’s next to impossible to get heroin these days in the west. After the Americans left Afghanistan, which used to produce 90% of the world’s annual heroin, the country went back into the hands of the Taliban. Since they wanted to get some recognition from the western countries, they gave in to the west’s demand to destroy the poppy fields. So they got rid of almost all of them, which is why the Chinese and Mexican cartels then jumped in to fill the void, and that’s why you have that massive fentanyl epidemic in the USA and Canada now, that’s been ravaging these countries for the past 7 years. Fentanyl is way worse than heroin, because the so-called therapeutic window, the difference between the dosage needed to get the medical effect and the dosage that kills you, is much smaller than then the therapeutic window of heroin. A tiny bit too much and you die. They would’ve been much better of with leaving the heroin in place, than replacing it with fentanyl.
