If taxis in Bangkok were fair, honest, decent service, then Grab and Bolt could not compete. Taxi rules need enforcing, drivers better trained, then they can get business.

I recently took a taxi from Bangkok to Pattaya. The first one wanted 2000Bt, the second one 1800Bt. I then got one at the correct price of 1200Bt.

We travelled in silence all the way as the driver could not speak English. My case, backpack and small cabin case in the back of the taxi, it then pulled up at my hotel.

I tried to open the door to get out and the driver shouted loudly at me "MONEY" which I had to pay before I could get out.

What sort of mentality was this? Did he actually think I was going to run away without paying leaving all my stuff in the car?

Why not just increase the standing fare and the mileage rate, so that taxi drivers can earn more money?  Bangkok taxis are ridiculously cheap. Why not just increase the standing fare and the mileage ra

  • No stricter regulations needed. Just enforce what already have. All taxi drivers must use meter. If they refuse, they can get reported and face a fine of 10000 baht, up to 3 month in jail depending th

Good. They've been pulling this crap forever. It should be a simple rule, refuse to abide by the meter and you lose your license for 30 days. Do it twice and it's suspended indefinitely.

I have been coming to Thailand now for almost 14 years and during that time when I need a taxi they refuse to use a meter, in most cases. Yet year  on year the Thai government Dept. states there will be a crackdown on Taxis not using the meter. As usual more verbal rear end wind than actual action. 🤪😃🤪

25 years on, and nothing has changed since I've been here.   Simple, don't use them.  Can't really remember last time I did use one, and they used the meter.  In my experience, most do.  But I'm not an idiot tourist, and or the wife will do the talking.

Good for her.

There are just too many taxis in Bangkok... Regulate them, register them and the good ones can stay and the ones with complains are not allowed ever in their live to register as taxidriver... Why is Bolt and Grab able to do proper fares while the metered taxis always have problems?? copy their system

There is a lesson here.  Stop taking taxis and use Bolt and Grab.

I only use Grab in BKK.......let the taxi drivers play on their phones with nothing to do.
