The Indian Navy's survey vessel, INS Darshak, under the command of Colonel Praveen Thomas, has arrived at Sài Gòn Port for a cordial three-day visit to Ho Chi Minh City. This visit marks a crucial advancement in the cooperative relationship between India and Vietnam, particularly enhancing their partnership in the Indo-Pacific region.

At a press briefing aboard the vessel, Colonel Thomas highlighted the visit's significance in reinforcing maritime security, fostering sustainable marine resource management, and promoting strategic regional integration between the two nations.

During their stay, the officers and crew of INS Darshak have planned several activities to deepen ties with Vietnam. They will pay tribute to President Hồ Chí Minh by laying a wreath at his statue on Nguyễn Huệ walking street. Courtesy visits are also scheduled with leaders from the municipal People's Committee, the Military Region 7 Command, and the Naval Region 2 Command.

Moreover, the visit includes cultural and historical site tours in Ho Chi Minh City, friendly sports interactions with the Vietnamese People’s Navy, and onboard tours of the INS Darshak for local delegations. The vessel is outfitted with cutting-edge survey and digital data processing systems, modern sonar, water column density measurement tools, and sensors for tidal and meteorological data.

This visit not only strengthens bilateral ties but also underscores the commitment of both India and Vietnam toward enhancing maritime partnerships in strategically vital regions.

A modern survey vessel could be very useful in the much-disputed waters of the South China Sea ... And India has much relevant experience with Sri Lanka & the Maldives.
