A 28-year-old man was killed instantly in a horrifying road crash on the morning of 1 June, when his sedan crashed into the rear of a six-wheeled timber truck in Tha Takiap district.

 

The accident occurred at approximately 07:00 in Soi 9, Village 17, Ban Thep Charoen, Khlong Takrao subdistrict. Police Lieutenant Suriyan Phili, deputy investigator from Tha Takiap Police Station, and rescue workers from the Phanom Sarakham rescue unit were dispatched to the scene.

 

Emergency responders found a blue Chevrolet sedan, registration number from Bangkok, wedged underneath the rear of a six-wheel Isuzu truck carrying a full load of timber (registration from Chachoengsao). The sedan had suffered extensive damage, and the body of the driver, Mr Prasit Srilert, 28, was discovered crushed inside the vehicle.

 

The driver of the timber truck, identified as Mr Aeh Lamphueng, told police he was transporting timber from Ban Thep Charoen to the Cham Pa Ngam timber yard. He said he heard a loud bang at the rear of his vehicle and initially thought a tyre had burst. Upon stopping and checking, he was shocked to find that a car had collided with his truck and the driver had died on impact.

 

Police are continuing their investigation and will take a full statement from the truck driver as part of standard legal procedures. The cause of the collision remains under review.

That seems like a natural reaction. Most people would probably be shocked over an idiot that rammed the rear of them. 😉 

Was there not a red rag on the back of the lorry to warn of long load ?

Stupidly in Thailand, loads can extend 2m from the rear of the vehicle.

Any think a red rag tied to this would have stopped this car driver? The roofs been opened like a can of sardines:))

Illegal overloading goes on daily all year long in Thailand. You never see these lorries, pickup trucks or school buses pulled over because again, no one cares. In all likelihood he was on his phone and going too fast to stop if he even saw the truck ahead of him. A red flag is supposed to be used when cargo sticks out a little bit from the back, but it wouldn't have made a difference here. 

Perhaps the truck pulled out of the woods or a country road, and the car crashed into the back of it. I've seen dozens of accidents like this—rednecks often disregard traffic rules and are in no hurry to accelerate after entering the road.
