Choices of view from my new wintergarden. I think pic two and three will be seen from my place.

I like position one best from inside the room, but I get the fan from the aircondition from the other position, and also the Mountain ridge going down in the horizon.

Living semi rural ROCKS

You got quite the yard yourself 👍

5 - 10 mins, quick access to town/shopping, surf & rolling hills.

Closest neighbor is 140 meter, with lots of pineapples & coconuts around us.

All the 'brown' areas to the East are pineapple fields now, South all coconuts

Still Krabi is one of the nicest landscape coming down from Ranong though PhangNa is one of my favorite stretces.

Krabi, Surat Thani & Phang Nga is where we seem to hang out most during our O&A. Addicted to the stunning landscape, and never seems to get old.

Wow this is an interesting place! How it is comparing to more known spots @ the area?

We really don't go to many 'know spots', or should I say, spots foreign tourist know or go to. Usually well know to Thais, or not, and you'll definitely need your own transport.

We really like off the beaten track places, in Surat Thani (not Samui), Krabi (not Ao Nang), Phang Nga (not Khao Lak) and Nakhon Si Thammarat (NST). Lovely landscape, but do need to entertain yourself or just for R&R, as usually not developed for international tourism, except maybe Khao Sok area.

Actually Kathun was just a pitstop, on the way to Kiriwong Village, NST, about an hour SE of. Coming from Ao Luek, about 2 hrs SW of, where we spent a few night.

Some of the hotels and areas we stayed at lately ...

Plus I post some spots, (probably dupes), on this thread, more current working backward, or start on Pg 1 ...

I get my feet done in that Robinson, and get my haircut at a shop in Terminal 21.

I also spent a week or two in "Centerpoint Terminal 21" 10-15 years ago and it was great. A little pricy, but perfect for a holiday with the family in Bangkok.

I was in that yesterday & today. Love the daughter, as she insists on driving when at Krung Thep. I don't have to worry about having an oops out of province, at least for yesterday.

The pollution was horrendous driving up from PKK. Hua Hin & above, if you didn't know the hills were there to the east & west, you wouldn't noticed the outline of them. Same when you got on 35, and you could see the 'fog' about 5 kms ahead. That's a first.

Then this morning, sitting having coffee, AQI was in the low 30s

I have not stayed at the "Queen's Park" since Marriot took it over, How was it?

I remember the parking being a bit interesting.

I prefer the Holiday in, and not Marriot. Havent stayed there for a few years now, since it is way above my budget, and really not that much better room, except for the breakfest, and the entrence hall, that gives it a bit more exclusivity.

You mean the Holiday Inn Soi 22? I stayed there every weekend for a year or two when it was new. They had a pretty good breakfast as I remember.

The breakfast at Marriott is hands down the best in Bangkok I have experienced, and got Chatrium Riverside as a good nr 2 of those hotels we have used. Grand Four Wings is also ok,.

The best I have had in BKK was the Intercontinental, but that was years ago.

The Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit was probably second, and they have the skywalk to Asoke BTS station which is nice.

I do not stay at the high-end hotels much since I retired, and almost never in BKK since I live in BKK now.

We are cutting back as well, and trying to find the right time for the best offers. Working less and start to eat from savings changes perspective a bit.

cheesy

Yes, living 'hand to mouth' , as someone describe my finance, think it means check to check, and don't know how we do it cheesy

Amazed at what I use to spend for a good meal, dining experience in the past. And for the same experience here, cost as much as back in the USA, and more than I care to spend, as just not the same, or I'm too thrifty now.

I don't find the need to impress myself any more, and buffets were never my thing, as have no will power not to over eat.

3 course, fine dining, meal, with couple bottles of wine, and that equates to about a week of accommodations for us here cheesy

Thankfully there's no fine dining venues where we live, and few to none, where we go O&A. I feel lucky to find AC with a view, or pleasant landscaped setting.

Of course, if we couldn't cook, my dining out expenses, would exceed all other monthly expenses.

Normal expat's monthly expense (non chef, no food) ... 70k

Add dining out ... 71k, yikes, I'd have to pimp out the wife or myself to eat good.

Living in poverty must suck, literally, or not.

60 baht for krapow moo. Dining out is cheap if you eat local.

Hard to beat the view, of a full on buffet, especially a good protein section, bbq & roasted meats and added plus if seafood available. Damn near orgasmic

More grabbing a bite than dining out. 99% of the posters on here know local joints for noodles, Krapow, Kow Gang, Kow Phad, or a nice plate of Somtam with a piece of chicken or Kor Mu Yang

More a 'my view' thread than a dining out, eating cost thread.

No comparison, as that's some sexy sh!t right there, vs lower photo ...
