You're not wrong to be suspicious of what DOGE has done.

That's a big part of their cost cutting policy -- trying to shake people who are eligible out of the system by various sleazy methods.

Of course those of us who know about the requirement will be pursuing filing in other ways such as through Manila. But that's not exactly foolproof.

Blame it on DOGE leftist.

Would not be an issue if the fraudsters quit frauding.

This should not be news to those that have been paying attention.

But here it is.

Under the Trump regime, government agencies which were previously and appropriately NON PARTISAN and about their function to serve the citizens, all citizens regardless of politics, have been aggressively mandated to cow tow to the one big man at the top.

I have some first hand inside information about this.

A report of a young government worker who was DOG-ED out and then reinstated for the explicit purpose of using his writing skills to do communications that were as Trumpian as possible.

I don't know if the guy is a Trumpist or not but it doesn't matter if he's willing to write that kind of propaganda.

This is weird.
This is un-American.

But this is where we are now.

So you’re broke now?

38 baht?  His entire 4 years.  I don’t think so.  Maybe 1 day.

During Obama?  30 or 32?

I forgot all about project 2025 .  It was a big concern for the leftists during the campaign.

How did that work out?

So much drama. I really don't understand the need to tell anyone of importance where you spend your time. Maintaining an address in the US isn't that hard. It would certainly eliminate all the worry here.

What a ridiculous comment. I don’t have any address in the US anymore and haven’t had one for many years.  There’s nothing to “maintain”. What isn’t hard is for the SSA to automate the reporting requirements so individuals can log into their private SSA account and report

There's enough states which make becoming a resident no more difficult than having a PO box and DL. No physical address needed.

Automated reporting would just open the fraud flood gates.

I have the wife fill out & sign my my 7162, so the money will never stop, unless I die in a public area while out and about.

Made a vid with me smiling and blinking, incase they ever go live facial recognition like BBL does now.

Got all the bases covered 😎

What's really nice, and sad (2nd part) ...

... I've gotten back every tax dollar I ever paid

... if I live a couple more years, I will have drawn as much SS, as I've made with salaried jobs, which was only around the half mill mark (USD), that's sad, and only the last 8 years of working did I make any acceptable wages (1993-2001)  :w00t:

Been getting SS for 24 years come this Sept, and best part is now, I don't even need it to live on 😎

Your plan will a last for a while but when a foreigner dies in Thailand eventually the Thai government will notify the US Embassy of your death. Then the Embassy will the start to process to determine if the deceased was receiving federal benefits (SSA, Federal retirment, VA etc).  Through the State department the appropriate federal agency will be notified.  This process might take a while but eventually SSA will find out if a reciepeint has died in a foreign country.

It all starts with this.....

Local Notification Within 24 Hours

A family member, neighbor, or village head (phu yai ban) must report the death to the local police station or district office (Amphur) within 24 hours

So I guess the village head will need a slice of that state pension....555

Can’t get a DL if you don’t physically present yourself to a DMV. Which states issues a DL using a P.O Box?  DOA

For those of you who successfully returned downloaded blank fill-in forms in the past, what did you do with Box 1? Instructions say to complete it only if you have a change of address from the address below. But there is no address below on the blank form. Nor is there any of the coded information to the right, which includes social security numbers followed by 15 other numbers. And there is no place to provide a social security number. What did you do in the past? Fill in both sections? Or only the top? What about the SS number?

2nd mailing done today, so at least 1 should make in it.   Done 1 week apart.   Getting a head start on the other 760k expats, that are still waiting for the form to arrive by mail   :cheesy:

A few years ago, somebody posted on this forum that they go through to SSA and talked to someone in the processing office who said they had sacks and sacks just lying around. They had been sitting there for a month or more.

'somebody posted on this forum' ... let that sink in.

The form I see to download has section 1 (which I assume you leave blank) and I would assume you simply write in your telephone number in section 2.

There is a big gap before section 3. There is ample room to put all info from a previous official version here, including the various number strings.

I haven't done it but, but this is something I'll consider in a week or so if the real ones don't arrive.

I was also thinking about the difference between faxing it or mailing it... any thoughts?

Actually, I was about to go out to the post office today and return a copy of the form from last year that has all the information and barcodes on it. But I thought I would check here first and maybe get ready for a second mailing in a week or so of a purely blank form. Where are you going to fax it? Manila? As referred above MySocialSecurity has an upload function on it, but SSA disabled it for those of us living outside the US.

Manila opened my email request day before yesterday (24 July) for confirmation of Form 7162 received, but they haven't answered yet. Next week? Knock on wood.

Darn, I might be mistaken. I can't find a fax number now. Others here have experience with doing this through Manila, even though Manila seems to not offer this service.  I remain confused.

I thought someone posted here earlier on this thread saying the FBU in Manila doesn't handle 7162 forms. Do you have a history of having them deal with your 7162 form?  If so, that's great. Please let us know your system. Thanks.

Since no address, I simply put my address where it asked to, if different from below, which it is, since nothing there.

Yes, there is a place to fill in SS #.   Under # 6, as blocks were blank, so I filled in with my SS #.

And I used pdf form, that allows you to simply fill in & check of the boxes, using keyboard of laptop.

Then saved / downloaded, sent to wife's FB msgr, she printed it off, signed and dated it, then mailed it to Wilkes Barra PO.

2 copies, one last Friday, and one yesterday.

Yes, in the past several times they have replied to a query to say the form had been received, and in some cases I believe they used a scanned copy to post it, even though on the SSA website it says only originals are accepted. I have two aging friends that I help with those things as well as my own. Of course, this year may be different because of the political mess in the states. It may take a while, though. Wait and see... Yes, a fax number did work in 2019, fax # 410-966-6782 but doubt it still works. It did then, I used free fax service app through Dropbox called hellofax.com

Block 6 is a question, yes or no, for people with children under 16 or disabled living with them. The reverse side Block 6 is only for people who answered yes on the front page block 6

... "Under # 6" ...

Usually auto filled in, when form sent to you, blank when downloaded, so I filled it in ..

No scam, their SS authorized doc examined me (much to my lawyers dismay), and when all info and testimony given, (2nd appeal), judge said he'd make a ruling in 3 - 6 months, as SS doc hadn't given his report in yet.   I got a check for 2 yrs of full disability payment (minus 6 months unemployment), within 6 weeks.    So guessing he was pretty convinced and agreed with SS doc and my doc, I was F'd up, and couldn't work.

Why 2 yrs of payments ?  I filed on the insistence of my brother, after 1 yr of not bothering, and actually wasn't going to.   He pointed out I was an idiot, and I had to agree.  So filed and jumped through a couple hoops.  Approved April 2003, disability started March 2001 @ 46 yrs old (born Dec 1954).

Living in TH since Sept/Oct 2000, married already and house built, and commuted to work, (MEM airport) till March 2001.  I didn't file, because I didn't need the money, as retirement was already planned.  Actually not for another year or so, but threw my back out for the last time, and got to retire about 1 year earlier than planned.

Think that fills in all the blanks.  Anything else ?
