Do they still have one cashier till that takes cash?  That's what they do here in China.  And the one person manning the tills is generally adequate since so many customers here are conditioned to do the QR payment thing.  And I've seen them call over other associates when things got busy.

the one person asked how i was paying when i said scan he led me over to the right tills which seem to be self service but he did everything except give me the receipt, probably left side cash
