In a tragic incident earlier this week, two construction workers lost their lives after an 8-metre scaffold collapsed at a tourist site in southern Việt Nam. The accident occurred at 7am on June 5 within the Sơn Tiên Tourist Area in Biên Hòa City, Đồng Nai Province.

The workers, identified as N.V.H., 50, and B.V.M., 63, were on a scaffold constructing a dome structure over 15 metres high when the structure collapsed. Both men suffered critical injuries and were taken to the hospital, where they later died.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident and are scrutinising the responsibility of all parties involved. It has been revealed that the construction project lacked formal identification, with the investor yet to submit a building permit or other relevant legal documents.

The Sơn Tiên Tourist Area, developed by Sơn Tiên Ecotourism City JSC, encompasses 380 hectares, with 200 hectares allocated for tourism facilities and the remainder for an ecological urban development. Operations began in 2022 with an initial investment of about VNĐ15 trillion (US$590 million).

As the investigation unfolds, authorities aim to ensure accountability and prevent future tragedies at construction sites, highlighting issues of safety and regulatory compliance in the rapidly developing tourist area.
