What, if any, consequences might there be for visiting websites which do not "have a secure connection with http"?

if you're only reading a web site, there is very little downside if the site doesn't use https

When a website does not use SSL (i.e. it uses HTTP instead of HTTPS), the connection between your browser and the server is unencrypted. This means any data you transmit—such as login credentials, personal information, or credit card details—can be intercepted and read by anyone with access to the network, such as attackers on public Wi-Fi.

Most modern browsers actively block access to non-secure sites or display prominent warnings, which is justified. If a website still does not support HTTPS in 2025, it indicates a lack of basic security practices. It is advisable to avoid submitting any sensitive information on such sites, as doing so exposes you to a high risk of data theft.

Who uses debit or credit cards online for payment any more?

All payments in Thailand are bank transfer, promptpay, QR code or CoD.

Personally occasionally use a US bank card for traveling outside of the country and things like Amazon

Absolute rot to say that ALL payments etc.  You do not know how I, or most other people pay bills for example.

I have never used promptpay(whatever that is) QR codes or COD!

Anyone who wants the protection cards offer you or wants easy refunds from on-line retailers like Lazada to spend elsewhere.
