Authorities in the north eastern Spanish city said around 600 people joined the demonstration there, some firing water pistols or setting off coloured smoke and putting stickers saying 'Neighbourhood self-defence, tourist go home' on shop windows and hotels.

There were similar demonstrations in other parts of Spain including Ibiza, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, San Sebastian and Granada. Protests in Italy took place in cities including Genoa, Naples, Palermo, Milan and Venice.

Stories like this make me love the tolerant Thais even more. Is there any other country in the world that does tourism better than the Land Of Smiles?

No

No. Here is the list..........https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Tourism_rankings

Ungrateful parasites. The revenue from the tourists keeps the hospitality sector afloat and the tax revenues pay for their social services.

I think I have found you a woman you will match with.

This has nothing to do with Israel or Thailand. The tourists in Spain who are being harassed are behaving themselves and doing nothing wrong. Tourism is 16% of Spain's GDP.  What will the   people who can find the  time to come out on a work day to protest do to replace  the 136 billion Euro revenue that is lost if there is no tourism? Who will pay their bloated pensions and social benefits?

You start a topic about an incident based in Europe and then make it about a girl that was in another topic here. Why?

Go off the beaten path.

No need to travel to the most heavily touristed places.

There are plenty of charming villages in Romania.

No need to visit Barcelona like everyone else.

Venice on the other hand ... is a must visit.

Oh Fred, I always have to mansplain everything for you.

Patong was saying the locals in Spain should put up with rude tourists because of the money that builds their country.

Just like the Israeli woman was saying here recently.

Get it now?

You do not understand this is tourism out of hand, who take apartments away from the local markeds, increasing rent and prices for normal people, as well traffic and noise in the very same areas.

I doubt you have ever seen cheap Charlie tourists in Spain ever, coming mostly from Uk and Nordic countries.

I do not have so much experience with southern Europe who mostly have their holidays one month after us, but I doubt Germans, French and Italians top Uk and the Nordic countries in bad behavior.

Benidorm in the 90’ies was a catastrophe with especially Uk guys fighting in the street

Wow, what a coincident, they're the main troublemakers in Thailand 😮

That is debatable.

We usually try to deflect on to the rude Russians, the pushy Chinese and the straw sharing Indians.

Please keep up.

You would have to actually be  man to do that, and being a man myself, one that actually does man things, it's not necessary. But keep that assuming that you know others without ever seeing them, as it further buries you in your land of bewilderment. You always find a way to install things about Israelis, yet you seem to think it isn't noticed. Get it now, or not?

Spain sold out when they joined Eu, and are in great dept now after sold out cheap. That’s the reality for them.

Thailand on the other hand doing good, not giving their country up for cheap promises and cheap money.

If I could had own land, I would had 50 rais today offered back in early 2000 in Hua HiN, if not more. Safest assets you can hold.

A real man doesn't think they have to "mansplain" in an online forum to others they know absolutely nothing about. It's a boyish cowardly way to bolster a weak self esteem and it doesn't impress anyone. When you make an accusation, better have evidence to back it up. If you had an ounce of memory ability, you would remember the facts about my family history and not take the side of a woman who did damage to myself and also her own children. I treat women well, unlike someone we know who buys them and looks at them as conquests, along with driving drunk, bragging about it, with no regard for the safety of others, including women and children here. Stop acting like a little boy and stick to the topic you started.

Absolute garbage.

I am the one who always is advocating for those who had a couple of drinks to take extra care on the roads and observe the road safety signs.

The signs the that you can not read.

I have a flawless driving record in Thailand unlike yourself that has been in more than one accident here.

I do not dispute that there is a problem with a subset of tourists. There was just another incident of  drunkards on a junket to Ibiza. However, harassing polite law abiding visitors is not going to fix the problem. Not mentioned is Spain's influx of economic migrants and refugees, It has granted asylum to approx. 1 million migrants over the past 4 years. They have to live somewhere and they are  competing for low cost housing.

If there is a problem with some tourists, go after them, and not the quality tourists.  Blaming the tourists is a cop out, an easy way to ignore the source of some of the problem, the Spaniards themselves. The landlords are allegedly  prioritising foreigners over "locals" because the landlords can get higher rents. Go after the landlords who do it then.  The remedy for excessive rent increases is rent controls that require the landlord to file their rent increases with a rental regulator. It is done in other jurisdictions and protects the tenants.  There are complaints of apartments being converted to short term rentals and Air BNB. The solution then is to require such rentals to be registered and to pay the taxes that they are most likely  avoiding now. If there are too many airbnbs in a building, the  number allowed can be  limited. This is done  elsewhere.  It all gets down to Spanish people  wanting to make a profit and/or to avoid taxes. That's not the  tourists' fault.

If tourists are disorderly or litter, then issue tickets and fine them. If they brawl and cause damage, arrest and hold them until they pay the damages. This would require the Spanish police to  actually do something other than sit in speed traps,  and hang out in the station drinking coffee.
