A devastating fire broke out today in Udon Thani, engulfing a single-storey house and a van parked outside. Four residents narrowly escaped the blaze, which firefighters battled for an hour, suspecting an electrical short circuit at a car charging point as the cause.

Police Lieutenant Narasak Nonthabutr received the report of the fire at Sinchai Thani village within Udon Thani municipality. The emergency services, including police patrol unit 191, municipal firefighters, and volunteers, swiftly responded, deploying five fire engines to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found the fire consuming the house and the van. Strong winds exacerbated the situation, spreading the flames rapidly and completely destroying the house.

Neighbouring properties also suffered damage. It took about an hour to control the fire fully. Initial investigations indicated the house and van were completely lost to the flames.

Homeowner Supot Wannok, 69, explained that four people were present during the incident: himself, his wife, daughter, and granddaughter. Discovering the fire near the electric vehicle charging point, attributed to his youngest daughter’s car, he tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful.

After safely evacuating his family, he managed to drive an Isuzu M7 out and move the burning van to minimise further damage before alerting the authorities.

His daughter, Suchira Wannok, heard the initial commotion while tending to her child but assumed it was a storm. Realising the danger when her mother alerted her, she quickly fled with her child, observing the fire spread from the charging point, which was not in use at the time.

Police suspect an electrical fault at the charging station as the cause. They are coordinating with forensic officials to confirm the exact cause and proceed with necessary legal actions. The incident highlights the importance of safety measures with electric installations.
