BANGKOK –  A heated dispute among bar workers in Soi Sukhumvit 23 escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving four individuals injured in a stabbing incident allegedly stemming from a rivalry over clients.

In the early hours of 20th June, police were alerted to an altercation at a Japanese bar in the bustling district of Bangkok's Sukhumvit 23, renowned for its nightlife. Reports indicated that two women, both involved with the bar, engaged in a confrontation with rivals from another establishment in the area. The disagreement, suspected to involve competition for clients, turned violent at a car park near the bar.

Thonglor police arrived at the scene to find multiple victims suffering from knife wounds. The authorities promptly detained two women on suspicion of carrying out the attacks. The assailants, who reportedly operate one of the bars, encountered their rivals while disposing of rubbish after hours.

Feeling threatened by the larger group, they allegedly armed themselves with kitchen knives, leading to a physical confrontation that resulted in four people being injured.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes as the incident unfolded. Among the injured was a young woman whose aunt later spoke to the press.

She explained that her niece and her friends had longstanding issues with the bar owners due to past verbal disputes, although previous altercations had never escalated to this level of violence.

On the night of the incident, her niece had intended to defuse the argument when she was caught up in the attack.

The aunt further disclosed that the niece heard arguments in the parking area and decided to investigate, finding three friends already engaged in a heated exchange.

She attempted to intervene just as the situation became violent, with her friends trying to flee from their advancing adversaries. She described seeing her niece being directly targeted by the attackers, resulting in stab wounds to her abdomen and right side.

All four victims were admitted to Kluaynamthai Hospital. As of the latest reports, two remain in serious condition, unconscious from their injuries. One victim sustained wounds to the stomach, while another suffered stabs to the right side and the arm.

Following the incident, police have charged the two detained women with causing severe bodily harm. During their inquiry, the suspects chose not to comment on the motives behind the attack.

Despite the severity of the charges, they have been temporarily released on bail, each with a bond set at 150,000 baht. Police have scheduled a follow-up investigation for 7th July to determine further legal actions.

Police investigations continue as authorities work to piece together the full narrative of events leading to this violent outbreak. The incident has sent ripples of concern through the local community, known for its vibrant yet competitive hospitality scene.

I guess you didn't get past "4 bar girls stabbed" and just assumed it was Pattaya--even though "Bangkok" was also in the headline.   Just goes to show that incidents like these can happen anywhere there are large numbers of tourists, and workers catering to them.   Might be Pattaya or Phuket next time, all three are in the 20 most visited places in the world and can be expected to have incidents such as this.
