Putin is Scum, But Ukraine is Not a Country

According to this historian, who makes a compelling case for the same, although I think he minimizes the existence of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomercia as a dominated entity.

  • Putin is scum. Ukraine is a real country. Case closed.

Not sure about the origins of Ukraine or just cause, but Putin doesn't want to negotiate with Zelensky because he believes Zelensky to be an illegitimate puppet of the West, which he is.

Ukraine is not a country, just like Israel and Kuwait is not a country.

I read the article a couple of times and still do not understand what is his point.

Most (all?) current European nation-states are relatively modern artificial constructs (post-18th century) and are an amalgam of the lands of various ancient tribes. Should we doubt their legitimacy?

The question in your final sentence is much easier to understand and answer, and that answer is 'No'.

You got the first part right -- Putin IS scum!

The West is responsible for the forever wars in the Middle East, for one thing.

So don't forget to look in the mirror.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the current conflict in Eastern Europe.

- Is his cause just? I don't think so because Russia has been such a total failure for so many decades, you can't just fix it in one fell swoop.

 - I see Putin's logic he wants a much more powerful Russia ala Soviet Union. I just doubt he can pull it off.

- Putin is failing. Russia needs a better leader. Russia needs reforms.

Zelensky won a free and fair election, so how exactly is he, "an illegitimate puppet of the West"? Moreover, given  that Zelensky's opponent in the final ballot, Poroshenko, was the incumbent president and was pro-EU and pro-NATO in his outlook, why would the West want to replace him with an unknown quantity?

Ukraine is not a country, just like Israel and Kuwait is not a country.

They are trying to reform.

They are trying to develop an alliance with Trump.

Maybe one reason they have been a failure for so many years is the West has made them into an enemy.

The excuse given by the West was that they were "communists". And communists are bad people that need to be crushed.

Man some of the Russian ladies roaming around here are beautiful, on a side note.

What is YOUR point?

Who would deny Israel or Ukraine being independent states?

Silly post

I am referring to the linked article by the Russian disinformation spreader. If I have ever seen history slaughtered for the sake of propaganda and disinformation, this is it.

Any sovereign state can be defined as country, and Ukraine definitely is a sovereign state, and acknowledged as such by all worlds countries, bar one.

So why did you say that Ukraine is not a country in your original post or mention the so called link?

I take it you're not a native English speaker. Read the whole sentence.

Meaning that if you regard Ukraine as not a country, than by the same token Israel and Kuwait (and several others) cannot be regarded as countries. Being also conceived by some colonial overlords at some time.

China is a perfect example. Historically it was part of Mongol Empire created by Kublai Khan. But, of course, Chinese will all deny that.

You never did answer my first question which was; "What is your criteria for defining what is/is not a country?"

Combing your  three posts adds up to total gibberish in English or whatever  your claimed language is as they contradict each other.

PS; You said "Read the whole sentence."

"which whole sentence of which of your your comments am I supposed to read?

Why bother? The article's tone and framing—particularly its dismissal of Ukrainian nationhood, reliance on selective historical anecdotes, and portrayal of Ukraine as a vulnerable entity surrounded by predatory neighbors—mirror common tropes in Russian propaganda aimed at delegitimizing Ukraine's sovereignty. It also leverages historical grievances and geopolitical tensions to sow doubt about Ukraine's territorial integrity, aligning with narratives that support Russian influence or territorial revisionism.

While not entirely fabricated, the article is heavily biased, omitting countervailing evidence of Ukrainian history and identity while advancing a narrative that serves Russian geopolitical interests. It is not a neutral historical account but rather a slanted interpretation with propagandistic intent.

To all intents a complete waste of anyone's time reading, why would you waste your time on such slanted drivel?

In other words, you can't dispute the history he has set forth so you'll just engage in a diatribe?

You claim it's not worth reading and yet it the same time say it slanted drivel,  and you can't dispute anything it says. Nice argument. The old I read it, but it's not worth reading, and I can't argue with it anyway.

I understand that not everybody had irony on their language education curriculum. Maybe time to go back to school?

So let me translate my first post to plain English (ex irony) for the great uneducated masses.

"If you regard Ukraine as not being a country, then by the same definition used in the linked article, you cannot recognize Israel and Kuwait as countries either". Savvy?

In fact, Israel is not recognized as a country by 31 sovereign nations. While Ukraine by only one!

Ukrainians have their own language and alphabet.

As usual, the OP is attempting to spread disinformation.

A frog with dyslexia could crush your assertion that Ukraine isn't a real country.

Just now, DezLez said:

Because I preferred to use sarcasm with an undercurrent of irony. I think many understood the intended meaning.

I believe that Posts are meant to be readable and not guessing games.  If you wany to make "ironical" posts  I suggest you  annotate them as such.

Goodbye!

Slight correction, the Ukrainian use Cyrillic alphabet, same as Russia and some other countries, but with addition of a few extra characters.
