The US president pledged to save his counterpart from the case, one both leaders have called a political witch-hunt.

The trial has been ongoing since 2020, with Mr Netanyahu's cross-examination beginning earlier this month.

The only good thing that might come from this is if the Israelis go ahead and prosecute Netanyahu. Maybe then Trump will stop spending American taxpayer dollars to subsidize that country.

Trump did say that Netanyahu is of use to him and that losing him now harms efforts to strike deals in Gaza and with Iran. Netanyahu is the only who can force his right wing coalition to go along. It was Netanyahu who agreed to terms under the Abraham accords, and who has kept peace with Jordan and Egypt despite multiple conflicts in the region. It is Netanyahu who is trying to normalize relations with Syria and now, Lebanon.

 

The reality of course is that the Israeli court system will deal with Netanyahu without interference. Taking down national politicians on corruption charges is a national sport in Israel. A quick look at Wikipedia shows a list of mayors and cabinet ministers who were nailed for  inappropriate  conduct. It is actually nice to see that corrupt people  get their comeuppance at some point.  I think the Israeli public is  quite tired of Netanyahu and his coalition of extremists and self serving buffoons. He is barely hanging on  in a coalition of 6 political parties  who are only interested in serving their own vested interests. It is no longer a question of when  Netanyahu  faces the judges, but when.

it is jot a subsidy. The military aid serves two purposes:

1. It provides a platform for  US presence, in a stable country, that is loyal to the USA.

2. The funding  pays for US  services and products and is in effect an indirect subsidy to the US  companies. The technology tested and proven in Israel is then  taken  up by the USA. The Patriot missile system is an example. The Trophy APS which defends US tanks is another.The electronic warfare systems in the F35 are are derived from israeli technology and so on.

 

You obviously do not like Israel and are using this forum as a platform to further your political bias. Why not be honest and just state that you are anti Israel and want it eliminated? Why are you so afraid of being open about your intent?

Or the surf capital of the middle east. The Gaza beaches are reportedly some of the best in the region and if cleaned of their  plastic waste and trash that the locals dump, has great potential. It could be developed into the resort destination for Russians and Europeans.

I don't give 2 sh*ts about Israel one way or another any more than I care about France or Chile or Morocco or Bhutan. I'm for America First.  Israel isn't part of the USA

That's unfair.  Trump is politically expedient. His support for Netanyahu is mostly lip service and is intended to get him onboard for the coming peace talks. Trump is the only US President since Clinton who has a chance of getting a Middle East peace deal put in place. It would have been done had Iran not initiated the Hamas attack on Israel. It will require some bold brave steps but the Gulf Arabs are the only ones who can decide, but they need Netanyahu to  behave and to give them something to work with.  There is a lot I disagree with on Trump, but, some of the things he is doing are long overdue, and middle east peace is one of them. Give him a chance.

Today, the Gazans  sit with another peace agreement championed by Egypt and Qatar, with the Gazans refusing to make an effort . There has been a successful propaganda effort to blame Israel and to encourage jew hate financed by groups who want to stop any normalization of relations. It's still a subsidy. It's a gift of credit to Israel to purchase weaponry from US suppliers. So, It subsidizes both Israel and the US weapons industry.
