How about 3 speed bumps. 20 metres apart prior to crossings. 1st on a warning. 2nd one higher if you hit at 30kms you know about. Third on if you hit at 30km call a tow truck

Tyre spikes that come up and stay up till light green.

Hell think I get the wife to start. Tow truck and tyre business.

Amazing Thailand.

  • Don't know what is wrong with Thais involved in accidents. They always flee rather than accept responsibility for their actions. Good that someone chased him down.  It is unfortunate now the baby

Many have never accepted responsibility in their lives. For them it is something other people do not them. This guy should get a minimum of 10 years in jail, it is after man slaughter

Rip every zebra crossing up in Thailand, total false sense of security. Most dangerous place to cross.

Yes, spend a little money and build pedestrian overpasses. End of pedestrian accidents if the people use them.

? Do you think that will save any further life on Zebra crossings?

Education is a must.

The driver should get the death penalty.

Yeah, take an eye for an eye.

Absolutely....it's the only remedy that WORKS!!!!

The Thais should do either of two things - have a huge campaign to educate locals on the rules regarding zebra crossings, with very stringent  penalties for breaking them or, remove the crossings nationwide. As things stand it's safer to cross where there's no crossing.

Life ban Taxi license and drivers license......

install more flashing red lights when attempting to cross.......a press of a button.....works in the USA

My wife's niece said many Thai's refuse to use the crosswalks, (pedestrian crossings, or zebra crossings) because they say that's where people die.

I don't ever trust Zebra crossings over here, no one complies with them. Poor lady and poor child, I hope there is someone there to take care of the kid especially with his mother being Laotian and likely not having an extended family here.

They are the most unsafe places to cross a road. Never assume, that as a pedestrian, you are safe to cross at a zebra crossing because so many drivers have a contrary opinion and never slow down for them.
Be afraid at zebra crossings. Very, very afraid.

I stopped using the zebra crossings around the Moat in Chiang Mai. Especially the ones on the south side of the Moat with traffic lights.

Red lights without cameras achieve very little to nothing in Thailand.

The Police in CM are currenty focused on helmet less m/c riders which is good however in 7 years living near the Moat I have never witnessed Police monitoring for Red light runners of any vehicle & bike types.

If you recall the data from a prior article it said that 14 pedestrians are killed .

A lot of articles and remarks are about zebra crossings, what about the pedestrian walkways in front of stores like Lotus, Big C, and Makro?

The one way busy road  I cross at my store is actually two way !

They drive/ride like animals.

Not to mention the real animals at day break. Any dog without a collar on the loose should be impounded. I am seeing more & more dead dogs road side these days. However also seen some smart dogs waiting along side people waiting to cross the road with them.

Exactly.

There was a video recently where some

Thai hit someone with his car, gets out and the first thing he does is checks the damage to his car with the person laying in the road.

I really wonder how much they value human life here.

Terrible, disgusting,  irresponsible.

Speed bumps & rumble strips would help a bit - along with front & rear facing traffic cameras focused to catch red light runners.

The road authorities are not being proactive enough - they could be doing a lot more.

I have noticed Thais do not seem to value life especially if it is edible.

They just aim and drive fast straight towards them.  Watch the video of the Foreigner crossing the zebra crossing in Chiang Mai and watch her baby getting thrown 10 m down the road in the tram.

Motorcycle riders are just as bad if not worse passing either side of people crossing with the cars stopped.

If they ran into a white person they wouldn't have run away because they know they would get their vehicle fixed up with the white person's insurance

I  avoid them, they generally aren't in the best spots to tell if drivers are gonna slow down. I cross where I can get the best line of sight both ways

And no paying compensation in lieu of a jail sentence. A civil judgement should come after the jail term, so the family who is left behind, especially without a breadwinner, can survive.

It can often be the case in Thailand , where the guilty driver can pay both  the police and the victims family when there is a road accident fatality . I know of such  an event  . Money talks in Thailand .

Yes, and money, compensation, replaces lives here as if they mean nothing.

1. Reckless driving causing death

2. Failing to stop and provide assistance after a traffic accident, regardless of fault and not identifying himself to nearby officials.

10 years in the slammer.
