A police chase in Loei province turned tragic when a boat capsized on the Loei River, leading to the disappearance of Police Lieutenant Roengsak Khokkhiew.

The incident occurred on June 30, following a burglary investigation at a scrap shop in Baan Kang Pla, Chaiyaphuek subdistrict. Around 3 p.m., during questioning, a suspect who identified himself as Wasan fled the scene by jumping into the river. Officers quickly pursued him along the riverbank.

Two officers decided to continue the pursuit by boat, targeting the suspect, 25-year-old Yotsaran Chanta. Yotsaran was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Loei Provincial Court for charges related to the indecent assault of a minor under 15, highlighting the seriousness of the pursuit.

As the officers navigated the swift currents near a stone quarry, the situation took a dangerous turn. The boat overturned in the turbulent water. While one officer managed to swim to safety, Lieutenant Roengsak, serving as Deputy Inspector at Mueang Loei Police Station, was swept away by the current and disappeared.

Search and rescue operations are underway, with local authorities and volunteers scouring the riverbanks and broader area in hopes of locating Lieutenant Roengsak. Divers have also been deployed to explore underwater areas, but as of now, he remains unaccounted for.

The incident underscores the risks and challenges faced by law enforcement officers during operations, particularly in unpredictable natural environments. The police community and local residents are rallying together, hoping for a positive outcome in the search for their missing colleague.

This event has resonated deeply with the community, with many expressing their concerns and offering support to the search teams. The focus remains on locating Lieutenant Roengsak while reflecting on the dangers faced by officers in the line of duty.

Efforts to apprehend the suspect continue, with additional resources allocated to track and apprehend Yotsaran, who remains at large. The situation continues to develop, with updates anticipated as search operations progress.
