A Thai woman is demanding accountability from hospitals in Chaiyaphum and Nakhon Ratchasima following an alleged misdiagnosis that led her to terminate her pregnancy.

The 37-year-old, with support from the non-profit organisation Be One, is pursuing justice after discovering what she believes was a critical medical error. In 2019, she found a lump on her back during a routine check-up in Nakhon Ratchasima. Hospital tests indicated it was cancerous, and immediate treatment was recommended, which she declined.

In 2024, upon becoming pregnant, she sought prenatal care in Chaiyaphum. Based on her medical history, doctors advised terminating the pregnancy due to potential risks to her and the baby. Trusting their advice, she proceeded with the termination.

This year, she discovered another lump on her neck and sought a second opinion in Bangkok. Doctors there found no signs of cancer, causing her to question the accuracy of the original diagnosis.

She had not received any cancer treatment, raising doubts about the initial findings and suggesting her pregnancy might have been unnecessarily terminated.

Assistant to the Minister of Public Health, Thanakrit Jitarareerat, accepted her complaint on July 1 and promised a thorough investigation. If any wrongdoing is found, disciplinary actions will follow to ensure justice is served for the woman and her lost child.

Desparately sad.  Especially as she is 37 and it'll gradually get tougher to conceive and carry for the full term.

This implies that neither hospital carried out a biopsy to confirm cancer.
