  • Sometimes it feels good to be monogamous

  • Well, letting in all the Indians and Russians will make that happen, as HIV is widespread in both populations... even if under reported.

you can only vouch for yourself but not for your partner. Two decent middle aged women in my village have to take medication for HIV because their husbands (both now dead due to aids) used prostitutes

Letting in sex mad Indian men in big groups, visa free, into Pattaya is going to make the problem worst.

There are plenty of forum members who regularly have sex with prostitutes and don't wear a condom .

They are to blame to HIV spreading

Clearly that isn't helping.

But you need to see the situation in India to fully understand why this is a major issue.

What the fok is that face rash all about?

Indeed, using that kind of picture for such an article is so incredibly dumb, as it perpetuates the wrong and dangerous belief in too many people that you can see if someone is not healthy and just need to avoid them "to be safe". I'd daresay most people who catch HIV here in Thailand catch it from someone who looks perfectly healthy.

As most people rely on home test kits,

Most people are idiots.

I go to the best clinic specialised in STDs for check ups.

Why would I use home kits? That's idiotic. Let the professionals do it. Costs very little.

Logical, but impractical

Indeed. Sometimes you pray.

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) revealed on 1st July that 547,556 Thais have tested positive for HIV

That's a lot of infected people. Be careful!

 Which one would that be?

If this is true a half a million people out of a population of 68 million is a staggering number. There are a lot of medications that make life with HIV a lot easier than it used to be, I wonder if there's any government assistance for something like that.

Thailand actually has a very good program for HIV.

If caught early, medication pretty much makes for a normal life ( if you have a sensible lifestyle ).

Before we know it people are going to be stigmatised for having acne or a shaving rash...

Scary for the sex workers.

Most of them don’t insist on condoms.

So I don’t think that scary for them.

So more than 547,556 in Thailand , 1 in 124 people.

Half of that figure are probably dead by now.

Is it the all time total or those currently living with HIV.

I believe that the Thai Red Cross is the main source of these medications, but my knowledge could be out-of-date.

The best public health education programmes are not going to work if people refuse to listen and learn (because they think it will never happen to them; that they are invincible).

The best public health education programmes are not going to work if people believe that there is not problem, that it is a fake information conspiracy.

In an age of Robert Kennedy Jrs and anti-vaxxers, diseases like HIV (and mumps) will continue to spread (just look at the "great" USA).

So, your conclusion:  Russians, Ukrainians, Indians, African block to enter Thailand?

Or better to train students (from year 12 on) how to use a condom.

Should be taught in all schools, girls and boys?

Also, don't be ashamed to do an HIV test.

Why is this needed?

Thai's receive free HIV medication under the Universal Coverage Scheme.

Seems like the original fear of this disease has faded into the past. Hardly ever see the warning posters about how to avoid it nowadays. They used to be everywhere, even on TV.

The OP states it.

Currently > 500 thousand tested positive for HIV , it doesn't mean they are dying from AIDs (yet).

Anyone who is having sex with a non monogamous partner should look into getting

PREP… It’s a inexpensive medication taken by pill daily that is very effective in preventing HIV transmission…

A months this supply cost less than a short term hooker… :coffee1:

..the virus does not discriminate regardless of your race or nationality ..

Has anyone said that it does?

Very naive of people to blame it on sex workers.

It is still mostly a gay disease 67%.  1% showing from sex workers.

So, it is the gays receiving another man's semen in their anus.  Gay men or Ladyboys in high rates.

Add, how many of the gays lie do to the stigma of gay?  Probably much higher then 67% I bet.

First you have to ask yourself why you are doing any of this...

Individuals experiencing mental health problems may be more likely to engage in unprotected sex, which can increase the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancies. Mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders can impair judgment, reduce self-esteem, and impact decision-making, making it harder to consistently practice safe sex.

I assume this is a smarmy and juvenile swipe at the gay community...

People need to stop blaming gays, Indians  Rusians or prostitutes for AIDs...

You get HIV because of you OWN actions!

They're safe and effective ways to protect yourself...

So educate yourself and enjoy life and stop hating on  others.. :coffee1:
