When I was at Uni - long time ago yes - but that has all been replaced by illegals in most western countries.  Because the farmers make more profits using illegals - no insurance, no compensation, no taxes (often), no complaints.

I doubt there will be enough backpackers and college kids to replace migrant workers on farms.

Didn't Republicans talk about changing the laws on child labour to allow them to work long hours on the farms?

Up until the 80's there was a mix of legal and not. The difference was, they went home after the end of the season.
