Immediate Emergency Flight Home Experiences?

Your familial dynamics are probably different from most others.

I don't do funerals for friends or relatives. However, I have attended the cremations of both my parents and my only sister. This wasn't so much for my comfort and solace as it was for those surviving each passing, like my mother, my sister and my niece and nephew when my sister passed away.

Otherwise the next one I will be attending will be my own and i won't care who shows up or otherwise.

If I felt someone needed me to console them, and really needed someone to lean on, yes, I'd hop back over for that person.

But for the life of me, can't think of anyone, at our age, that doesn't already have a support group.   One friend did die suddenly, when I first got here, and if possible, I would have hop back over for his wife, as really didn't have anyone to lean on.

But as a single parent, and not really knowing anyone here at the time, that was impossible.  Did call many times, check up on her, and see if she needed anything, and was getting along OK.  Think I called her more times that month, than all phone calls to USA in 25 yrs.   Even told her to hop over here, and I'd pay her way, FC, if she needed to get away.

Why not go and visit them before they are on their deathbed ?

  • In such an emergency why even bother mentioning cost, cheap Charlie rules again.

  • Can't think of any reason I'd need an 'emergency' return to USA.  To say good bye to dying friend or family member, I can do that here.   To attend a funeral ... seriously, visit after they

at our age,

Some people living here are in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s.

Amazing, I know. 🙂

Don't Agoda always add extra tax to their advertised prices in the small print?

Not for flights and only for hotels if you have it set up like this, as I'm sure has been mentioned to you before.  I've set it to show "Total price per night".

Had no trouble booking flights. What I totally forgot to do was arrange transport from the arrival airport to my parents house. Walked out of Heathrow 15 years ago and asked a Black Cab driver how much to go to Salisbury. £320! Told him I would think about it and went for a ciggy. Came back and we agreed on £280 as that was all I had on me. Could have got a private driver that lives just around the corner from my parents to do it for £90.

Interesting, thank you. Another point that people should add to their emergency plan.
