Residents on Soi Yensabai in Pattaya City, Thailand, woke to the roar of motorcycles in the early hours of July 10. A group of predominantly Kuwaiti youths was responsible, marking the second night of such disturbances that left locals longing for a peaceful night’s rest.

 

In a bid to restore calm, Police Lieutenant Colonel Suchart Dusadee, head of the patrol unit at Pattaya City Police Station, swiftly organised checkpoints and roadblocks in Soi Yensabai. The aim was clear: stop the noise, disperse the racers, and conduct thorough checks on documentation and conduct.

 

The police didn't just issue stern warnings; they confiscated several motorcycles for detailed inspections. This decisive action underscores their commitment to prevent further disturbances, addressing what has been a recurring summertime issue. Each year, thousands of Kuwaiti college students flock to Pattaya for their break, often leading to similar upheavals and heightened tensions.

 

Residents welcomed the robust police intervention, relieved by the immediate response and hopeful that ongoing checkpoints will bring long-term resolution to the noise nuisance. This recurring problem has previously led to significant discontent among the local community.

 

To put it into perspective, Pattaya’s seasonal influx of young tourists has often meant increased clashes over traffic laws and community norms. Last year, frustrations peaked, escalating community tensions.

 

Yet, the swift police response this year hints at a more proactive approach to maintaining peace. Locals are optimistic that such efforts will curtail the disturbances, offering them the tranquillity they deserve.

 

As the summer season continues, all eyes remain on local authorities, eager to see if these measures bring a lasting calm to the vibrant streets of Pattaya, balancing the thrill of visiting youngsters with the peace of local life.

 

With community wellbeing in mind, the hope is that this proactive stance will not only address the immediate disturbances but also foster a harmonious environment for both residents and visitors. Okay the kids did it, but who gave them the motorcycles???? I suppose they were not imported, but rented here... but of course the rental company is not to blame as its is Thai.

This happens every time there is some school holidays in that part of the world. I feel confident to say I doubt any of them has a valid motorcycle licence. Surely preventing them from renting, and taking the motorcycles off them if they do, can be achieved.

i do not think the bikes were rented for the majority.. If they were too noisy and suped up then surely nor rented.

I have never once been asked to provide a driving permit when renting a bike in Pattaya. They only require a passport. 

 

The noise greeted by these little step throughs is astounding!

Our village and surrounds near Cha Am, have never ending bikes screaming all over......but as usual..Thais don't hear them!
