I want to buy an air purifier for my house before the next burning season.  Can anyone recommend a particular model that works well to reduce the PM2.5 and PM10 particles?

Thanks!

Xiaomi Smart Air 4 Lite is what I have (one in living room and one in bedroom), seems to work well. Can be bought on Lazada. Order now before you really need it (not when the AQ is bad as the orders back up and delivery can be delayed).

Make sure you buy one that can manage the amount of space you will be using it in... Lotus also carries a good quality one that is also found in Lazada or shopee..

Ive had great success and value for money with Xiaomi units. Whisper quiet and effective.

Here

+1 on this...

We have the smaller ones in the bedrooms and the large one in our living room.

That said: they don't get much use...  our place seems fairly well sealed so the PM is always quite low.

Its only at the worst time of year (usually over Dec/Jan) that they might get turned on.

I've never used one before.  Do you have to replace the filters?  How often?  Can you wash the filters or do I need to buy extra filters as a back-up?

I've had mine for years, yet to replace a filter, even though having 2 spares here for our 2 purifiiers.   Simply vacuum the dust off the filter and put back in.  Still takes it down from cough cough level to <5 PM2.5/10, many times to -0- reading.

Depends on the use and how dirty it gets; I buy the filter every year, about 400nt but the machine will tell you when it needs to be done. There are also 3 different types of filter depending on needs. See here:

Coway are by far the best as are their water filters

The Xiaomi units are nice because replacement filters are easy to get.

Don't cheap out. Buy as many units as you think you need, and maybe a couple of units more.

They don't use much electricity. Noise is the only problem.

I use Coway for water filters and I'm quite happy despite controversy after customer performed proper lab test on the water and it came out with over 3x the limit of colliform bacteria...

Coway refused her request for a refund, probably paving the way for a media lynch of the company. This was their response (ask Uncle Google to Translate it for you):

On air filters, although the main reason to stick with Xiaomi was gone with Purifier 4 series (same filters used across the fleet), they still provide great value with inexpensive (genuine) filters, small size and great performance. I do feel however that older models (like 2S) lasted longer than newer models. 3H and even 4 are already making noise on the small air quality sensor fans, while 2S that's probably now 5 years older than these are still showing no issues at all (except burned out OLED screens for inability to adjust the brightness on them).

Xiaomi is still a great deal, with filters lasting 6-12 months going for about a monthly subsciption cost of Coway. But even Coway is a great deal compared to some "legacy" air filter producing companies. charging an arm and a leg for both the box and the replacement filters. I got burned on a few of them, where a couple of months after buying a box I was told replacement filters need to be ordered from Japan at prohibitive costs because... that's now an old model, and filters are no longer stocked. A few months earlier it was marked as New arrival! To avoid defamation lawsuit I'll keep the names of Japanese, American and Dutch companies to myself...

I have a Levoit. I was still miserable during the air pollution season this year in Bangkok. When they estimate the size of house each one can cover, mine is at the very edge of the range. Next time I would buy multiple ones, or at least a bigger one, but I'm not sure how well they actually work. Our house isn't sealed very well.

Buy a little more than you need. You can always give away extra units or store them.

Sealing the house is a double-edged sword. A perfect seal could lead to carbon dioxide intoxication, so you might want to leak a bit.
