Classy book title. Might give it a miss.

  • Came here when I was 30 years old. Just with my wife, my baby and 2 bags. Best decision of my life. Thailand is easy. That said baby is 19 y/o now, speaks 4 languages natively and jets between EU

He is one of those guys who loves to over complicate that which is so basic and simple. The use of common sense and taking one's time to get to know a place and avoid stupidity.

For all you naysayers out there, I know Dave very well and he's a lovely bloke. He made his fortune by selling his cider making factory in China to one of the big guys (might be Bulmers but can't quite remember). He's super intelligent with a heart to match the size of his brain. He spends all his time (and money) these days on investing (he's big into Bitcoin) and charity with ALL THE MONEY from the book going to children's charities. The title of this article is a bit misleading as the book is really aimed more at people looking to retire in Thailand and just gives a no-frills account of what to expect and what he personally went through.
It's certainly worth the read and at only $5.99 (with again, all proceeds going to charity) a bit of a bargain.

He's not. See my post above.

Who would have known that being prepared makes life less risky? Now we'll have to buy his book to read more statements of the obvious.

"The book moves beyond clichés of bar-girl tales, offering genuine insights into thriving in Thailand. Spivey paints a picture familiar yet misunderstood, where hasty decisions can lead to financial ruin or isolation. "Without structure or purpose, you'll be lost," he warns."

Who wrote this review? Chatgpt? Former finance and cider mogul? Give me a break. How about failed in America and tried my luck in Asia. Just like his costume in the photo, all fake.

Full kudos that all the profits are going to support Thai children.

With a ranking in the 50k range and one review in over a week, there won't be much in the way of profits from the book.  Granted, it's doing better than most books released, but we're talking tens of dollars, not hundreds or more.

Any clown SELLING books for money needs money.  He didn't make it.  He's selling some garbage books.  Fake it 'til you make it.

Over a decade here.  Don't drink, smoke, go to bars............  If you do this, you are destined for failure.   Sure, some can break the chain....most can't.

Now, buy my book on how to Live Your Dream in Thailand for $29.99 a day.   Note:  My book is $29.99.

I've read every post in this thread and I'm bewildered by the amount of apparently incorrect assumptions being made, given that nobody yet has actually read the book.

I was heartened to read a couple of entries by someone who knows the author personally, and describes why this is genuine.

I also observe recurring questions weekly here about visa extensions, 90-day reporting, TM30's, TM47s, border crossings, pink books, yellow books, bank accounts and relationships with Thais.  All these things are probably either new or very different to our own cultures so any attempt to assist the steep learning curve that we all had - or are about to have - seems welcome to me.

Woke up half an hour before you went to bed, worked down the mine 25 hours a day and pay the mine owner 2 quid a day for the privilege.

Glorified ad for the ex-cider mogul’s crap “books”

A regular polymath.

"Cider Mogul"

Cider mogul  declares himself to be Thailand expert after three weeks, two Chang beers and a midlife crisis.

According to the Amazon Website

 You'll Learn.

How much money you really need to retire in Thailand.

How to spot the classic traps and avoid getting dragged down—financially and emotionally—by scams, temptations, and fantasies.

Whether you should buy property—and why this might be the biggest, riskiest decision you’ll face.

Most importantly, how to build a safe, comfortable, and genuinely fulfilling life… without losing yourself along the way.

My goal is simple: to give you a no-bull<deleted> roadmap to the key aspects of living in Thailand, so you don’t end up as yet another “what not to do” story passed around over beers in a bar. This is a straight-talking guide, grounded in real life, loaded with stuff you actually need to know—and none of the usual crap you don’t

I agree it would help a lot of people (reduce frustration, provide steps and processes), save a lot of money, and reduce a lot of psychological and emotional damage if there was

"A Detailed, with where to find supporting info, guide to moving, working, living, or retiring in Thailand"

That said I have not read this book and it sounds like you may need to find additional resources to understand the steps, processes, pitfalls, and scams in Thailand.

How to thrive in Thailand? Write and sell a book about F'ing it up!

"100% of proceeds from this book are donated directly to support Thai children through trusted charities, including orphanages and schools."  and I believe this why? Because he said so? 🙄

BTW I've got some inexpensive ocean front property for sale in Arizona... 😁

ole in road? You wuz lucky.

When I was 30 in Thailand, 10 years before I wuz born, I slept on bamboo thickets on jungle path with family.

But we wuz happy, at least we were when we woke up and borrowed mother-in-law's bed for a few hours.

You were lucky. We lived for three months in a newspaper in a septic tank. We used to have to get up every morning at six o'clock, clean the newspaper, go to work down the mill: fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt!
And you try to tell the young people of today that ... they won't believe you.

"Cider Mogul"

I was a cider mogul in my mid teens for a couple of years before I could afford lager.

If there is one thing I am well versed in it is finance and Wall Street.  He certainly wasn't a Wall Street mogul.  He most likely worked for an investment bank for 2 years tops working 100 hour weeks spreading financial statements and building excel based financial models before he washed out.  Given his age I should be able to make a few phone calls and if he was such a mogul find that out pretty quickly.  In fact, I am going to ask people on my call tomorrow.
