A major traffic accident involving over 10 vehicles caused chaos on Mittraphap Road in Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima province yesterday. Police and emergency services responded promptly to the scene after reports of the crash came in at 12:20 pm.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanachok Patanatawee from Klang Dong Police Station coordinated with emergency teams from nearby municipalities and the highway police to assist those trapped in their vehicles.

The incident occurred at kilometre markers 40-41 on the inbound route to Saraburi in Phayayen subdistrict. Traffic snarled to a halt for more than 3 kilometres as police closed affected lanes and devised a special route to relieve congestion, crucially on the cusp of a busy holiday period.

Investigations pointed to a trailer truck, laden with firewood, which veered off course and sustained severe front-end damage. The truck driver was injured and rushed to Muak Lek Hospital in Saraburi province. The accident reportedly involved over 10 vehicles, including trucks, sedans, and pick-ups, all of which suffered damage in the chain collision. It appears the heavily burdened truck was speeding through traffic across four lanes, culminating in a dramatic overturn.

Emergency crews laboured for over an hour to clear the wreckage and reinstate normal traffic flow. Initial findings suggest that faulty brakes on the trailer truck might have led to the disaster.

Lt. Col. Thanachok announced that a detailed investigation would ensue, involving an interrogation of the truck driver and further examination of the evidence to confirm the precise cause of the incident, paving the way for potential legal action.

The swift response from emergency services mitigated delays, but the scene served as a reminder of the hazards posed by heavy traffic and speeding on major highways. With traffic resuming, authorities continue to urge caution and adherence to road safety measures.

Stay updated with further developments as police delve deeper into this unfolding investigation on Mittraphap Road, ensuring accountability and safety for all road users.
