A road crash involving a six-wheeled lorry, a car and a parked pickup truck has claimed the lives of two people, including an 11-month-old baby and left two others seriously injured. The devastating collision occurred at approximately 20:30 on 14 July, on Route 304 near the entrance to Wat Mai Bang Khla in Bang Khla District, Chachoengsao province.

Police and emergency services rushed to the scene following reports that a lorry transporting animal feed had lost control and crashed into a red Toyota Corona car travelling in the right-hand lane. The impact forced the car into a concrete central barrier, crushing it in the process.

An 11-month-old baby boy, who was resting on his mother’s chest in the front passenger seat, was killed instantly from severe head trauma. His 80-year-old grandmother, seated in the back seat, was also pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining fatal injuries from the impact.

The baby’s mother, Mrs Kanchana, was critically injured and was found clutching her child in the wreckage. Her husband, Mr Nakharin, who was driving, was also seriously injured and trapped beneath the dashboard. Rescue personnel had to use hydraulic tools to cut open the car and free the injured couple.

According to initial statements, the family had been travelling from Bangkok to Sa Kaeo to drop off Mr Nakharin’s mother when the crash occurred.

Approximately 150 metres away from the site of the collision, a Toyota pickup truck was found parked in the left-hand lane. The driver, Mrs Lamai, told police she had parked her vehicle temporarily to get something to eat when the lorry suddenly veered and clipped her vehicle before careening into the car.

The lorry driver, Mr Adithep, claimed he had been driving normally in the left lane when he encountered the parked pickup. Unable to brake in time, he swerved, losing control of the vehicle and slamming into the car with catastrophic consequences.

Police from Bang Khla Police Station are continuing their investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and whether any party should face legal consequences. Forensic officers will also examine road conditions and vehicle data as part of the inquiry.

Well of course, that's an ideal place for a baby in a car, Thai's have now stooped to using their children as airbags.

Too many roadside stalls along this section of highway with no parking areas for drivers that wanna stop to buy snacks or plants or fruit baskets or handmade brooms.

Most just stop in the emergency lane, then pull out into the traffic doing 90km, often without looking.

Truck driver likely facebooking and drifted to the left, swerving back at the last second but overcompensated.
