Vietnam extends a warm welcome to defence leaders from Russia, China, and more, to the upcoming 80th anniversary celebrations of the August Revolution on 19 August and National Day on 2 September. The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense has reached out to countries including Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan to mark these pivotal historical events.

Central to the festivities will be a grand parade featuring military contingents from Russia, China, Laos, Cambodia, and Belarus, as outlined in a recent meeting in Hanoi. This gathering, presided over by Deputy Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, emphasised the significance of defence diplomacy and collaboration for these events.

Cuba has been swift in its response, confirming that its Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces will attend. Both Laos and Cambodia are also preparing to show their support by sending troops to participate in the parade. This collaboration harks back to the recent 50th anniversary celebrations of Vietnam’s reunification, where military units from China, Laos, and Cambodia joined the parade upon the Ministry’s invitation.

In a related effort, Vietnam is embarking on the construction of a monument honouring foreign soldiers and experts who aided Vietnam during its resistance wars. This monument, recognising contributions from the former Soviet Union, China, Laos, Cambodia, and Cuba, will feature prominently in the upcoming celebrations. The progress of the monument was a key focus at a meeting held on 9 July, where General Chien urged all involved to expedite their work, ensuring the first sculpture group is ready by 15 August.

This robust display of international friendship and cooperation not only commemorates Vietnam's historical milestones but also strengthens diplomatic ties with nations that played crucial roles in its past struggles. The celebration promises to be a powerful tribute, underscoring Vietnam's enduring gratitude and commitment to forging lasting global alliances.

As preparations continue, the focus remains on creating an event that honours history while fostering future relations. This gathering of global military leaders in Hanoi highlights the significant role defence diplomacy plays in Vietnam’s approach to international relations.
