An incident unfolded on the morning of 16 July, when an air-conditioned public bus driver, veered off the road and slammed into a taxi depot in Bang Bua Thong district, Nonthaburi province, leaving four vehicles damaged and two people injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 05.00 near the noodle factory U-turn on Bang Kruai–Sai Noi Road. Officers from Bang Bua Thong Police Station and rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation responded promptly to the scene.

The vehicle involved was an air-conditioned Route 166 bus registered in Bangkok. The bus ploughed into a row of parked taxis inside the depot, causing significant damage to four vehicles. The impact also shattered glass and damaged structural elements of an adjacent veterinary clinic.

The bus driver, Mr. Monpan 27 and the bus conductor, Ms. Thanaporn 28, both sustained facial injuries. Both were given first aid by emergency responders before being transported to Bang Bua Thong Hospital for further treatment.

Mr. Monpan recounted that he was en route from the depot to Sri Saman Road in Pak Kret to pick up passengers. As he approached the U-turn, he noticed a cream-and-red public bus making a wide turn in the far-left lane. Attempting to avoid a collision, he applied the brakes and swerved left, losing control of the vehicle and crashing into the taxi depot.

He added that the driver of the cream-and-red bus briefly stopped, assisted him in exiting the wrecked vehicle and then left the scene.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Safety record of Thailand is absurd.

I was just another massive accident less than a week ago.

All of this taking place under the prime minister who acknowledged safety concerns could be an issue with Chinese and tourism 🙀

Thailand can't help itself

The 166 Bus is the bus that travels my area regularly, and like most of these buses, consistently enters roundabouts without giving way to traffic in the roundabouts, traveling way above the speed limit, refusing to stop at STOP signs, and dangerously changing lanes without blinkers. The drivers of these buses should be regularly tested, and their managers should be out taking routine trips to watch their drivers as well. I worked for a distribution center in the US, our drivers were always being checked, managers would routinely follow our semi-trucks when we spotted them out driving, just to make sure their driving was following the laws and road rules. It also paid to be the best driver, as we reward them with their pick of runs, screw up and you lose your seniority.

My wife was hit by one of these buses, it was a 3 lane U-turn area, the bus decided to not go around the outside edge lane, cutting right across all 3 lanes hitting my wife in the inside lane of the multi-lane U-turn. The bus driver swore up and down that he was in the right, it took a trip to the police station with dashcam evidence to which the police officer told the bus driver "You go to court, you will lose", before he finally backed down. So basically we have drivers who don't know how to drive, don't know the rules of the road, and are aggressive.....Really bad combination with such heavy and dangerous equipment!
