Abbot Accused of Abusing Girl in Pathum Thani Temple Scandal

In a deeply distressing case, a Thai mother, known as May, is seeking justice for her nine-year-old daughter, who she claims was sexually abused by an abbot in Pathum Thani. The shocking incident has sent ripples through the local community and beyond.

The allegations were brought to light when May contacted the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women on July 1. She revealed that her daughter had been assaulted in a temple bathroom and coerced into silence.

The incident reportedly occurred on June 24, as the girl and her younger brother sheltered from the rain after a football game near the temple. The abbot allegedly requested that they buy him oral rehydration salts, rewarding them with 20 baht each. He then asked them to assist in cleaning the temple's bathrooms.

While the siblings were in different rooms, the abbot allegedly entered where the girl was cleaning and inappropriately touched her. The situation was disrupted by her brother's timely arrival, forcing the abbot to stop.

That night, May's daughter suffered nightmares and exhibited signs of shock, yet kept the ordeal to herself. The following day, she refused school, citing illness, and later confided in her grandmother. This prompted the family to file a police complaint.

Though police summoned the abbot for questioning, he remains free. The girl has stayed home from school, fearful of encountering him. Seeking swift justice, May reached out to the foundation. Pavena Hongsakul, the foundation's founder, has pledged to ensure the abbot faces consequences and leave monkhood.

The case has highlighted issues of child protection within religious institutions. As the investigation continues, the community and advocacy groups are urging for a thorough and expedited legal process.

With the story yet unresolved, the accused abbot has not commented publicly. The situation remains fragile, as the affected family seeks closure and justice while awaiting legal proceedings. As this unfolds, attention remains focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of children in all communities.

The matter underscores the importance of vigilant protection for vulnerable individuals and the need for transparency and accountability within institutions. The outcome of this case will surely impact broader conversations about safety and trust in religious communities.

What is a monk?

Someone you doesn't want to work?

Someone who wants to become rich?

Someone who got a criminal record?

Someone who is gay?

Someone who can practice an extensive sex Life disguised as a monk?

Someone who believes in Buddha? 🙏

The Bad news is that this likely happened

The Old news is that this has likely happened for a long time

The Good news is, they now can speak out and their voices are heard

The Sad news is not everyone does and for a few Baht only the child suffers

It's ok to be gay. :coffee1:

Never understood how the police summons people to attend an interview and then they disappear.  Why give the suspect time to do a runner, amazing Thailand

the police should get off their butts and arrest him.

Same on the West. No difference. Only when there are hard facts and evidence then it's possible to arrest

But we are talking about the East!!

Here's the news: men become Buddhist monks for many reasons in Thailand.

Sometimes the choice is monkhood or prison (familiar with father who got underage daughter pregnant)

Fair to say he wasn't trying to achieve nirvana as a monk

This pervert sounds like he is cut from the same cloth

You want to show you're smart? You failed. You show only your I....cy.

Actually it's NOT the East but South East Asia, Thailand in particular.

That's enough about you trying to be smart.

I asked a friend about this.

He said

1. Degree: to know if male or female

2. Degree: to write your family name

3. Degree: to write your surname.

We got a good laugh together.

I hope he was joking only 😂

I have a nickname for one of the "monks" in the temple down the road

does not work in the temple,  does not walk in the morning, always has cigarettes, has a shopping list of things for people to get him, even has a local lottery seller deliver tickets to him
