Police in Lam Plai Mat district, Buriram province, have conducted an emergency response drill simulating a deranged man attacking a local school, as part of a proactive strategy to strengthen security in educational institutions.

The exercise took place at Lam Plai Mat Kindergarten School, located adjacent to the Lam Plai Mat Police Station, at approximately 08:30 on 16 July. The drill was supervised by Pol. Col. Wachirawit Wannathani, the district police superintendent, who delegated responsibility to Pol. Lt. Col. Chaiphreuk Paewphonsong, together with Pol. Lt. Somporn Nadee and various operational units.

The simulation involved a scenario in which an armed individual forcefully entered the school premises in a disturbed mental state. Officers from patrol divisions, motorcycle units, traffic police and administrative crime prevention teams coordinated a swift and effective response. Within minutes, the situation was “neutralised,” demonstrating the police’s ability to manage such emergencies rapidly and efficiently.

The drill was conducted in a controlled and orderly manner, with strong interdepartmental coordination. The operation not only tested the readiness of local law enforcement but also served to reassure teachers, students and parents of the safety protocols in place.

According to police, the exercise followed national guidelines on school safety preparedness and forms part of an ongoing commitment by the Lam Plai Mat Provincial Police to prevent tragedies before they occur. The station has pledged to continue regular training and simulations to protect the public, operating under the principle: “Prevention is better than cure.”

The initiative comes amid growing awareness of the need for swift and capable responses to potential threats in school environments across Thailand.
