The amount that is typically asked is way beyond the actual value. It's best to do what we did and just do a fake sinsod, we handed over 400,000, they were able to proudly display the cash at the wedding, the caveat was that they would return it to us the following morning, which they did.

The main purpose of marriage is to keep money in the family. So sinsod or no sinsod .... the money amassed is supposed to stay in the family theoretically. Sin-Sod 'shown' as part of the cultural process as distressful as it may seem to us (caveat - no 'amount announced' to remove the pantomime element)... money returned....
