In a concerning sequence of events in Pattaya, a third mysterious death has occurred in less than a week, raising alarms in Thailand's bustling seaside city. The latest incident involves the demise of 58-year-old Somkiat Nutrat from Nakhon Pathom, whose body was found in a revealing and puzzling state.

Emerging details show that police and rescue workers were alerted to a residence on Soi Huay Ku, Bang Lamung, on 19 July. There, they found Somkiat lying in the front yard, shirtless and with his trousers down to his knees. Nearby, a bottle of alcohol and an overturned chair provided a murky backdrop to the scene.

Lieutenant Colonel Srisuphan Atthasri-anant of Bang Lamung police spearheaded the response, collaborating closely with officers from the Nawang Police Post and medics from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation. The eerie circumstances of Somkiat's death have added to local unease following two other unsolved fatalities in the area.

Prayuth Phitphongsuan, the 65-year-old homeowner, recounted his relationship with Somkiat: "He had been staying with me after losing his job. I felt pity for him, but he drank heavily every day." Prayuth explained he last saw Somkiat at 6 a.m. before leaving for work, only to return in the afternoon to find him lifeless.

In a distressing discovery, Prayuth tried to rouse Somkiat, but realised he was unresponsive. Not finding a phone on the deceased, Prayuth sought help from a neighbour to contact the authorities.

The police have meticulously gathered evidence from the scene, but preliminary assessments suggest a drunken fall may be to blame. However, they are awaiting the final autopsy results to glean more insight into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death.

As local officials work with Somkiat’s family to arrange funeral rites, the community is on edge. This unfortunate event marks the third enigmatic death in the area, prompting residents to voice growing concerns over a potential trend.

Safety remains a priority as law enforcement steps up its efforts to uncover the truth behind these incidents. As Pattaya’s vibrant streets grapple with this unnerving pattern, the authorities continue to assure residents and visitors of their commitment to public safety.

With the final outcomes of the investigations still pending, both residents and officials hope for clarity soon, eager to prevent further tragic occurrences amidst the city’s thriving allure.

Local businesses and tourism operators are also on alert, aiming to maintain the city's reputation despite these recent unsettling events. Conversion into Thai Baht of potential economic impacts is yet to be evaluated, but ensuring safety is paramount to sustaining Pattaya's lively tourism sector.

Paetontorn last week talking about safety 🤣

Pattaya is a very dangerous place full of a lot of desperate Thai that see foreigners as easy marks. If caught there are few if any repercussions for even somewhat serious misdemeanors. Moreover, the Thai easily buy off the cops.

When I had lived there decades ago I estimated that there was about one mysterious death per week at that time based on what I was seeing tv and reading in the news. I can definitely see how that's increased double or triple by now. Especially with the influx of so many foreigners drawing so many indigent and unskilled, transient Thai

The whole town is basically a loose organized crime network. I'm not saying that that's related to the story but it's just sort of a fact

One thing sure. All ladyboys in Pattaya need to be registered with police and cannot solicit in the street. Should have done that decades ago

That law against soliciting was put on the books decades ago and is still there.

I don't think Somkiat was a foreigner.

Death has been a potential trend since the beginning of mankind.

If only there was a Thai version of the Cluedo board game !

I'd suspect Captain Somkiet, in the backyard, with the lao-kao bottle. (self administered demise)

... just an old alcoholic, of which there are plenty among Thais now. He drank himself into oblivion, his health couldn't take it.
Many of them still get behind the wheel drunk and maim people.
Their Buddhism is misfiring...

I briefly knew a woman and her boyfriend in the U.S. of A.   They both drank a gallon of wine a day.   He and she were watching TV one day, both drinking their wine.

She stood up from the couch to get more wine, fell on her face, and when EMT arrived, they pronounced her dead.

Autopsy found her liver was the size of a man's fist, I was told.

Might be the same problem with the man in this news report found dead.
