Obtaining Kor Ror 22, is a trip to MOFA in Bangkok required?

Thanks very much.

Regarding the 2 months validity. Does this have to be done at every 12 months extension?

Is it's renewal straight forward (not having to mess about with MFA again)?

Once you've registered your overseas marriage at an Amphur, then each year when applying for a 1-year extension you have to obtain a new KR 22, which can be obtained from any Amphur.

My wife and I have a procedure each year.
After preparing copies of the relevant documents, on the day I intend to submit my application, I go to the bank to update my passbook, and request a 3 month statement + Immigration letter, whilst the wife nips to the local Amphur for an updated KR2 before we then proceed to visit the Immigration office.

The purpose of supplying an updated KR 2/22 each year is to prove you're still legally married.
If you divorced at any time, this would be recorded on the database and the Amphur would refuse to issue a KR 2/22.
The fact they issue it means for all intents and purposes you are still legally married.

  • Get married again in ban rak. 👍

  • They can request to see the original documents, but shouldn't keep them, but it's your responsibility to supply good copies. It's no different with original Thai documents, they can request to see t

From what is stated on the list of requirements at hua hin. The renewal of the khor ror 22 will be necessary at each renewal. Your immigration office should confirm. I had to renew it twice, once to get the initial 90 day non-o, then for the one year extension.

Once i got the khor ror 22, i have not been asked for documents again to get the update.  Getting an updated 22 at the amphur was easy and did not take much time.

Once the MFA certification is done. It should not be necessary again.

Hua hin immigration did not require the certified marriage certificate. I did not have it certified before. They wanted an original khor ror 22 and took the original marriage cert no issue, plus two photocopies. ( signed).

I have seen posts where an immigration office wants to see the certified marriage cert. Perhaps i was lucky.

I do now have a marriage certificate (formal copy from the original registrar) fully certified.

I did not use my initial original marriage cert. In case it could get lost anywhere in posting.

Just to put some closure on this thread.

Must give a HUGE THANKS to all the advice that I have received from forum members, in particular Liquorice and Tod in getting the job almost done (will get to that in a bit).

I have learnt quite a few things along the way. As I had already got my marriage certificate and Thai Translation certified by the Royal Thai Embassy Singapore I was then informed that MoFA Thailand would only accept documents no older than 6 months. The documents I already had were about 5 years so I had to start the process all over again. See the attached photo taken from inside the Royal Thai Embassy Singapore, related to getting married in Singapore.

I engaged an agent in BKK as I have no time to go to Thailand to sort it all out.

Got the required MoFA endorsement on my marriage certificate and translation, from the MoFA office in Laksi this week. This document is 4 x pages long with a total of 10 endorsements/stamps on it. The result of 2 foreigners getting married in Singapore, one of whom is Thai. The agent in BKK had established that I had already obtained KR22 in 2004 (🤦‍♀️), as my wife is holding my surname and not her Thai family name. However, upon gaining a KR22 print out (our marriage registration was before computers were invented in the outback of Korat) it appears that the office back in 2004 registered my nationality as Singaporean instead of British 🤷.

So now in some process with crossed fingers that this can be corrected in the coming days without me actually having to report to the Amphur Office that recorded our marriage registration in 2004.

Nearly there.

It would have been an absolute nightmare to sort this out on my own with my wife and disabled daughter in tow. Easy enough for me to arrange the Singapore side of things as I had done it before but the Thai side of things is like me looking up at the stars at night.

So a very big thanks all round to those that helped 🙏 Very much appreciated indeed.

Hi.

Non Imm O visa based on marriage, question on gaining an extension.

Trying to get to the bottom of it after a visit to the Amphur Mueang office in Korat today, to obtain Kor Ror 22.

Married my wife in Singapore (over 20 years ago).

Have.....

- Singapore marriage certificate and translation from English to Thai endorsed by notary public and the Royal Thai Embassy Singapore.

- I produced these in Korat today, was told that I require to gain endorsement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Laksi in Bangkok before can obtain Kor Ror 22.

Question = Is this correct? I need to go to Laksi MOFA to get another endorsement?

Tomorrow I am visiting a different Amphur office to try again.

I understand that the MOFA now has an online queue application for appointment that may take weeks. I don't have time to go through that as will leave the country in 5 days.

If an endorsement of my marriage documents by MOFA Bangkok is a necessity, can anyone suggest a reliable agent to approach? I don't expect to be back in the country until next year sometime.

Thanks in advance

Yeah, the Amphur wasn’t wrong if you married abroad, they normally want MOFA Laksi to verify the foreign marriage documents before issuing a Kor Ror 22. Some Amphur offices are stricter than others, but most wont accept foreign-issued certificates without the MOFA stamp.

Trying another Amphur is worth a shot, but don’t expect a different answer.

Since you only have 5 days, using an agent is your best bet. In Bangkok, people usually go with Siam Legal, Sunbelt Asia, or any local visa/document service near Chaeng Wattana they can handle MOFA legalization without you waiting weeks for the online queue.

If time is tight, don’t try to do MOFA yourself let an agent fast-track it.
