Two severely injured dogs were rescued in Lampang Province after images of them with deep neck wounds caused by tight chains went viral on social media, prompting swift action from animal welfare groups and local volunteers.

The incident came to light around 20:00 on 21 July, when concerned locals posted distressing images of two native Thai dogs suffering from severe injuries and flea infestations. The photos quickly gained attention online, triggering a wave of public concern and calls for immediate assistance.

Responding to the outcry, The Ark Foundation under Royal Patronage, based in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai, teamed up with volunteers led by Phra Khru Aod of Wat Chedi Luang and the Lampang Animal Rescue Team. They visited the scene in Tambon Tha Ma-O, Mueang District, to investigate and provide emergency aid.

According to Mr. Bundit Muenruakam, president of The Ark Foundation, the two female dogs, both fully grown, are named Loma and Kaew. Kaew suffered from a particularly deep wound around her neck caused by a chain that had embedded itself into her flesh. Both animals were reportedly raised by their owner since they were puppies but were later chained after showing signs of aggression, including biting neighbours.

The owner, who works night shifts and also cares for an elderly, ill mother, admitted to being unable to monitor the dogs closely.

Rescue teams promptly cleaned the wounds, administered flea and tick treatment, and initiated a longer-term rehabilitation plan, with The Ark Foundation taking custody of the dogs to oversee their recovery, with the intention of transferring them to local authorities once they regain full health.

In a broader initiative, Phra Khru Aod is working to establish a formal animal rescue unit dedicated to aiding injured or abandoned animals across northern Thailand. This effort aligns with The Ark Foundation’s mission to protect animal welfare and promote compassion for all living beings.

The case has sparked renewed public dialogue about responsible pet ownership and the importance of accessible veterinary care in rural communities.
