Dear Folks,

Am I just imagining it?  Or, is there now just far more humidity in our jungle here in Thailand than there once was?

No, I am not imagining this.

Because, as we all know, Global Warming leads to increased levels of water vapor in the atmosphere.  And then we get increased precipitation.  And increasingly, we do get either floods or risk of floods.

I hope you enjoy it, because I do not enjoy it….much….

About 50 years ago, all of this was predictable. And, we are now living at the right time when we will see the predictions of the past actually bear fruit, and prove to be correct.

During the past two years, we have seen plenty of rain, and flooding, and we are bound to see much more of this, as time goes on.

One way to mitigate this is to just buy a dehumidifier.  I think I will cave, and I will buy one, too.

Or, if you are from a Scandinavian country, where people love a good sauna, then just move here, and enjoy your sauna experience for free.

I am not saying that Global-Warming-imposed saunas for the common man is not a good thing, because most people in this land are not rich enough to afford a sauna, unlike in the Scandinavian countries.

I just worry about the increase in bugs/insects, which I have recently noticed here.

Most insects, such as mosquitoes, seem to thrive well in these higher-humidity conditions.  And, during the past two years, after the past drier years, these pests have proliferated.

What do you think?

IF this Global Warming phenomenon continues, will we be able to endure paradise in this jungle which we now call home?

Whether or not we will or can has already become a hot topic among climate scientists. They say we will soon find life here intolerable.

But, one might also ask:

Is there any other place on the planet which we might find less intolerable?

Every time I think about the jungle heat, and humidity, I think of only one man and one song.

I first listened to this song before most people were aware of what it might be like to be out in the woods.

And now that we are out in the woods, I think it is worthwhile to listen to this song, from many years ago....

Once again...in fact.

But, concerning where to flee...

Maybe, and probably, some of us are just too old to migrate, once again, …probably.

Best regards,

Gamma

Please Note:  And, is everything just all a joke, given the fact that nobody is willing to change, even if the writing is on the wall, and has been on the wall for decades?  NO, nobody will change, even if they might make token changes....

The momentum is so great, our ship is impossible to change direction, even by an inch, or a millimeter....

Smoke on.....

Stay stoned, maybe....

And let's go down with the ship....happily....

Would this be best?

Should we not continue to focus on our visions of sugarplums, as usual, denying the reality around us?

Such irrational visions of sugarplums....are so satisfying.

I hope you have found your sugarplum, during these final days.

This is your best strategy, IMHO.....

I use THREE AirCons and will add one dehumidifier to the mix.

My rate of dehumidification will be even higher.

I intend to remove about 13 liters of condensate per hour.

Can you beat that?

So very dry....she is....

Nope, you win 😎

You are entirely correct, of course, that if you really wish to stay dry...then...

You will need to run a dehumidifier, simultaneously, while running your ACs....

Either that, or buy a more expensive AC from Daikin which will perform this same function.

Not sure if Daikin sells such an AC to the local market.

As far as I know, Daikin does produce an AC which not only cools air from the evaporator coil, but also has some sort of heating function, operating simultaneously, which is what is required to lower the relative humidity without freezing your balls off, to any given level.

So, the cheapest solution would be to buy the best Daikin available locally, and then also buy a dehumidifier, to be used together.

The dehumidifier will not only dehumidify, but will also add heat to the rooms, which will cause the ACs to run harder, and thereby lead to increased dehumidification.

This is all a virtuous vicious cycle, as you can plainly see.

All you need to do is to pay for energy, and then you can accomplish anything, within reason.

Do you have any suggestions for the most efficient dehumidifier which might be best for my intended use?

I would expect, at minimum, about 3 liters per hours of condensate to even consider any brand/model.

And, I do not like watts.

The more watts the less appealing to me.

Some like watts, but I do not....

Buy a quest 70 dehumidifier and your problem will be solved pronto.

I would NEVER, EVER, buy a dehumidifier that lists specs using PINTS....

NO WAY JOSE...

Where are you from....HICKSVILLE?

Anyway, I do not regard this as a good option, due to high energy usage.

I think something from China might be better.

NOTE:  Can you please help me to convert PINTS to millimeters?  Thank you!!!!!

HUGE waste of energy, this garbage device.....for sure

Yes.

I know you.

You are up there in Canada where almost EVERYBODY loves to waste energy.

And, no wonder....

You have plenty of oil shale, Etc, Etc. Etc....

You are some of the most energy-wasteful people on the planet...and we all know.....

Have you noticed?

What once was black is now white.

And what once was white is now black.

How can we even begin to explain this shift in culture?

Think of Tracy Chapman, for example.....

She was once mostly a singer for the white man.

And now, after so many years, her main audience seems to have crossed over.

Nice to see...BUT.....

is it not just a little too late?

Tracy Chapman once belonged to us white guys....is all that I am saying....

See what I mean?

Ask me any question, and I will tell you the truth.

Even about how to stay dry during the wet season in Thailand.

Any company that cannot do this is not worth my time, or yours.

Let's do this for the good of our next generation, before it'st too late.

Still, I think we often donate pints of blood, instead of liters of blood.

Which is a good thing.

Pity.

You should leave the jungle and Thailand during this time of year.

Unless you’re stuck.

San Diego is great this time of year.  Mediterranean weather.

I just came back for the summer.

This is a very simple question to answer, as you must know......

a.  As the temp drops, the relative humidity rises.

b. Please do investigate the meaning of RELATIVE humidity....

Thank you.

Also, California was a far better place when I was much younger.

California has changed a lot.....

California was better then....

Ok.

You know...when choosing a dehumidifier....

What I might be most interested in is the metric of:

Volume of condensate produced PER watt....

I want to know how much condensate the dehumidifier can produce divided by the amount of energy required to produce this amount of condensate.

And, as I know from years of use in the distant past, dehumidifiers require much energy to run.

If you expect to remove three liters per hour, then you will need to input quite a bit of energy to do this.

IF I am not mistaken, and I am seldom mistaken....

Using a high-efficiency unit to extract and condense 3 liters per hour of water vapor will require a dehumidifier which draws 1000 watts.

So, feel free to add up the cost, if you will.

Dehumidification is highly energy intensive because.....

This process is an exothermic reaction which requires much energy to accomplish this phase change from a gas to a liquid.

When doing a phase change, much energy is required....BIG TIME....!!!

Just like when one goes from a male to a female, then much money is required.

Think of it this way:

Much energy is required to transition from one phase to another, as you can see here....

image.png.90e80eb8df7b4c0b616e7235cd2d6d3f.png

also, the same is true for humans....

image.png.299f833cd63ff11875f1f0e1ce617a06.png

Much money and energy is required to go from one phase to the next, in this human phase change which is very much...

Analogous to the physical phase change of going from a gas to a liquid.

So, I just wanted to clarify this....

https://www.serviceexperts.com/blog/does-running-the-air-conditioner-lower-humidity/

How Air Conditioning Lowers Humidity

Contrary to what you might think, your air conditioner doesn’t increase cool, dry air in your home—it eliminates heat and humidity. The process requires refrigerant, which soaks up heat and moisture effectively from the indoor air. Here’s how it works:

  • Indoor air rushes through the ductwork and all over the evaporator coil that contains cold refrigerant.
  • The refrigerant soaks up heat, and the moisture in the air condenses on the coil.
  • The condensation falls into the condensate pan below the evaporator coil and drains out of the system.
  • Cooler, dehumidified air flows back into your home.

You have ZERO understanding of relative humidity.

But, I have no time to teach you here.

Just go back to school, and you can pay a bit of money to try to get educated.

Or, let me know if you need some links to study what you need to know....FOR FREE.....

IF you have the acumen, which might be doubtful.

By the way.....

Why do you think there is often dew on the grass in the cool mornings?

You have no ear for science, obviously....so then....

Speaking of dew....you might have an ear for this kind of dew.....

The Foggy Dew...I mean....CLASSIC....

And you need know nothing about science to appreciate it....fortunately....

At a warmer ambient temperature, air has a greater capacity to hold water, assuming the amount of water is constant. Therefore, humidity drops as the temperature rises.

Why do you think air conditioners are spewing water as they cool air down?

OP, if the salt in in your shaker is caking and deliquescing, the humidity is above 75%.

The critical relative humidity of various salts is an important factor in corrosion phenomena, and material selection/design of structures.

The humidity in Chiang Rai is above 90%, because it has been raining non-stop since April.

Removing so much humidity along with the air conditioning will help you feel cooler, but if you make the air too dry, that can also cause adverse effects, such as dry throat, coughs and others.
