Broke is fine.  MediCAID is for broke people.

Also, was unaware Pattaya had a nursing home.

Pattaya areas has several nursing home.  Some quite nice.

Probably better for the father to go home and be cared for there, and then no need for any visas for father or son.

  • Only if he is well insured in the US. Without it he is broke in the US.

  • My reply was to a post regarding a METV not a DTV.  Also I had already suggested a DTV in my first post.  Read more slowly.

Most likely a fraction of the cost compared to the US

i did not think of that one so i'll bring that up.  i did mention the METV, which wouldn't be too onerous to obtain.

agree, straightforward and gives up to 9 months, plenty of time

i was hoping to update the thread at some point with regard to the immigration clause 2.25, was the Son able to get a letter from doctor and get 90 day stays, etc...

unfortunately, the update is the Father passed away this morning.

thanks again for the input.

Unfortunate and sad.
Condolences to the son and his family.

I assume the Father will be cremated in Thailand and the son can return to the US with his ashes.
Once the son chooses the Wat, he should contact the US Embassy and inform them of his Father's passing and also request a letter of authority to cremate his Father. The Wats need confirmation from the individual's Embassy to cremate a foreigner.

Did his Father make a Will regarding his Thai assets?

the recovery could be years.  moral support/seeing a friendly face is likely all the son can do at this point but perhaps more at certain stages of the recovery.  but for now, he can't do much except make sure his father is getting what he needs on a daily basis.  it sounds like the nursing facility is doing a good job so far.

Definitely he should speak to the nursing home. It’s in their interest that the father stays there. Also the care home can do all the necessary paper work for immigration etc. I have contacted them for my uncle and I know they do this and are very compétant .

The father might not want to go back to his country . I have friends who have lived here all their lives and never think of going back. Personally, if it was my father or mother I would want to be near them too, so I quite understand the situation.
The son should see the home office immediately and take advice. At worst a METV.

My condolences to the family , I missed the last few posts.
