Safety Deposit Boxes

Featured Replies

Hi there, my bank offers safety deposit boxes in BKK. I checked out the fees and so on but wondered are these only for Thais or can foreigners use them also? I've had an account with them for like 15 years or more.

Also, it gives you a choice of size but just say like small, medium, large, and so on. I need need to put very much in one, what does it mean by size approximately, anyone have any ideas?

Also, I assume we get a key, are we able to copy this and make a spare?

Is it me that has to open it or can anyone who has the key open it? ID is required?

many thanks

I've got a safety deposit box at Kasikorn bank here in Pattaya.

I've had it for over 15 years.

Kasikorn offer 3 sizes, I have medium size, I'm charged 2200 baht per year. The safety boxes are housed in a vault.

The box requires 2 keys to open, the bank key and my key.

I'm given 2 keys (one spare).

I'd like to know if any other foreigners here in Pattaya have a safety box with kasikorn bank, these boxes are like hens teeth. I've been told they don't like to issue to foreigners.

I have a great relationship with my Bank Manager

Yes, can't remember how much, maybe 1 or 2 thousand baht.

This fee is refunded once you no longer need the safety box and return your keys.

IS it only me that can access it or can my daughter if I give her an extra key?

I'm not 100% sure, I reckon Only you.

You'll be asked for your passport and sign a document to enter the vault.

Many thanks.

We have a box with Krungsri in Bangkok. Pay a deposit, and an annual fee.

I think you have to be named on the box account to get in. We both have access.

I assume you can have your daughter’s name added, and give her a key.

If it's like US anyone that signs a card

SCB in chidlom did have them but did remodel. No idea.

TBH other than documents I wouldn't trust banks. Not seen news in awhile but years ago employee rifling boxes not uncommon.

Its going to be a huge, old, primary branch that has them. My searching years ago I recall only turned up SCB ... Maybe bkb rama 9 ... forget

Is there any reason you couldn't call your bank and speak to them? Or speak to someone in the actual branch?

I had a safe deposit box with CBLockers in BKK. At the Interchange 21 building.

Only one key provided, cannot be duplicated. Key card to open doors going in.

Biometric face id was also required at the outer door. Very secure.

Initial cost was roughly 10,000, but 6,000 of that was a deposit, which is returned.

I was very happy with the service.

Unsure if they provide access to multiple parties for one box.

I have a bank safety deposit box with Bangkok bank.

Charged 2000 baht per year or 1000 baht after discount because of my bank account.

Its was very hard to get one.

Not many available.

In order to get it i had to get a life assurance policy. The terms for the policy were IMHO very good. Better interest than having money in the bank, but tied into a policy for contributions each year several years.

Now nearing maturity - next year.

I used it as a savings policy for about 1 million baht on maturity to then buy a new car. Very timely as my wife is recently complaining we need a new car.

I had small one about 8 years ago with Bangkok bank. About ฿2000 annually and key deposit about 400 (if I remember correctly), no insurance was required (they pushed for it but I refused). 2 keys and I was the only one who could access with signing a form.

Do you think they'd answer on a Sunday morning?  Or open the branch just to respond to you?

I keep all my valuables at home, doors unlocked and usually open.

I like to encourage intruders.

Then call on Monday or go in when they are open.

I have one with Krungsri, Chidlom, cost Bht2,140 a year, can't remember if there were 2 or 3 size options, but it's a smaller one long and thin. I was given two keys.
