In an unusual twist on Hanoi's Ring Road 3, over 40 bus passengers found themselves stranded in extreme heat following a heated traffic dispute.

The incident unraveled at around 7 a.m. on 4th August, when Nguyen Minh Tuan, a driver for Khanh Linh Mining Equipment and Transport Trading JSC, was navigating congested roads towards Linh Dam. The unfolding drama began as Tuan’s bus navigated heavy traffic near Alley 124 Nguyen Xien Street. Here, a black seven-seat car, driven by 48-year-old Bui Truong Son, tried to merge from the emergency lane into the main flow of vehicles.

Trapped by surrounding vehicles, Tuan was unable to yield. The situation escalated when Son finally managed to merge, stopping his car abruptly. He then confronted Tuan, climbing aboard to accuse the bus of clipping his car's mirror. In a moment of frustration, he reached for the ignition key, leaving with it despite desperate pleas from the passengers.

With the bus immobilised and temperatures soaring to a record-breaking 40.3 degrees Celsius, the scene quickly turned uncomfortable for passengers, who had no choice but to hold out in the oppressive heat.

After an hour of chaos, the bus resumed its journey using a spare key, but the incident had already caused significant disruption. Traffic on the elevated road was severely backed up, triggering further delays.

The bus company promptly reported the altercation to authorities in Thanh Liet Ward. Son has since been detained by police on charges of disturbing public order. In his defence, Son stated his actions were driven by frustration over the bus driver's lack of cooperation.

This incident not only highlights the intensity of traffic congestion in Hanoi but also underscores the extreme weather conditions impacting the city. With a heatwave adding to urban challenges, drivers and passengers alike are urged to exercise patience and decorum on the roads.

Residents and officials are left pondering how such incidents can be avoided in future, aiming for both improved traffic management and harmonious coexistence on the bustling streets of Hanoi.
