A 35-year-old labourer has died after falling through the roof of a school assembly hall in Nong Han district, Udon Thani, in a horrific incident witnessed by his wife and young daughter.

Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr Chaimongkol, known as “Jeab”, lying inside the multi-purpose hall of a local school. He had suffered fatal head injuries, multiple fractures and massive blood loss after plunging more than 10 metres to the ground.

According to his wife, the father-of-one had been replacing roof sheets, when he stepped on a brittle sheet that gave way beneath him. He fell heavily to the concrete floor, dying instantly. His distraught wife and child could only watch in shock as the tragedy unfolded.

Dr Sarlikhitchai Pholthaisong, Director of the Udon Thani Secondary Educational Service Area Office, pledged that the deceased’s daughter, would be able to complete her schooling without any fees and promised to help secure further scholarships to ease the family’s hardship in the years ahead.

So sad a family man loses his life trying to provide for his family. Nice that the school will help the daughter but it won't replace a dad who's home.
