I just don't get itI have an hearing aid

Why do Thais scream at each other? I just wonder why they need a mobile phone? I am in the West at the moment and went out for lunch with 4 Thai girls (including my wife). I have a hearing aid, which I had to turn down because of the loud voices. Even in LOS, they talk loudly. I know you might want to talk in a normal manner, but listen to just Thais talk? And this is not Thai bashing, just an observation.

Yes on the phone they need to speak louder because the other person is a long way away. That was the response I got.

In the rural area where I live, I have noticed that a lot in coffee shops. They seem to maintain a consistent volume level, regardless of their location, except when on the phone, when they do speak even louder.

This is good news for the Americans! :coffee1:

Most of Asia is noisy. But the Thais do tend to shout to each other rather than walking 3 meters and speaking in a quieter voice. There is no awareness that their yelling might be too noisy for others.
I often turn my hearing aids off just to get some peace and quiet while eating in restaurants.

the offspring are just as bad, when the stepdaughter or indeed her kids are here and they want my mrs they will just start shouting  "mar" or "Yai" louder and louder and louder until she hears them   no effort what so ever to go look for her.  My missis is a bit deaf so the noise can be a real pain,     Of course she has no problem with this

I have learned to tune out.

My b/f spends 50% of every day shouting in to his mobile phone.

It's not just Thais - you should go to a  restaurant in Spain

You think the Thai's scream at each other? Try the people from the Middle East. They really know how to raise their voice.

True. When i lived with my exwife in my country some Saturdays 4~5 of her thaifriends came visit.

They sat in the kitchen screaming and gossip all the time.I speak thai well so i got sick and tired of listening to them.

I just went to my smoking room with a bottle of whiskey..put on my earphones and listen music on YouTube.

One of my big bugbears......and it is far from a Thai thing.......it is ignorant, selfish, arrogant behaviour.....portrayed by every nation on Earth.

Why the hell does anyone think I want to listen to them talking from 20m away.

Oh! Word of advice?

I gave up using hearing aids and switched to AirPod Pros 2G.

1/5 of the price, more control via Headphone Accommodations and Transparency Mode......fully connected re: bluetooth....and the real clincher......noise cancellation.

The OP is lucky to have a hearing aid , at least he can turn it down,  not so easy for the rest of us

Where does one start looking for a decent hearing aid over here . my mrs is deaf as a post, what do they cost ? i was told 20,000 bt  upwards. She got one off lazada for 900bt but it was useless of course

whatever they cost 1/5 the price of anything  has to be better   But presumably I'd need to get her an I phone too which would not make it so cheap

Yes. I think to secure the full function of the AirPods you need an iPhone......and probably quite a recent one 13 upwards?

But they were a God send....... for me at least.

I trialled a "cheap" set of hearing aids.......£1,350........so happy to find I could use the AirPods instead.

The only draw back for me is I need BiCROS hearing aids......but I'm hoping Apple will eventually twig and introduce software to achieve that.

"...this is not Thai bashing, just an observation".

Yes, it is an observation, a Thai-bashing observation.  You can't really believe that no one else, whatever nationality, sometimes talk in load voices?

your reply suggests that hearing aids are not a one size fits all device and that it depends on the nature of the hearing problem ? what does BICROS mean?

jesus £1350 is more than an I phone

I'm profoundly deaf in one ear.....so 'need' a hearing aid in the deaf ear to act as receiver which then transmits sounds to the the hearing aid in the 'good' ear.

That is a CROS hearing aid.

As I have about a 70% hearing loss in the good ear, the hearing aid in the good ear has to act as both a receiver and a functioning hearing aid....that system is called BiCROS.

Hope that makes sense.

yeah I think I got it , I'm due to see the oncologist in a week or two I'll see if he can point me in the right direction for a hospital diagnosis Local clinics seem to have no clue

I would really like to find a working solution for her , she has really been an angel the past 6 months, and it can't be easy for her

Tough times for sure.

The hearing aid business seems very 'scammy' to me.......prices are sky high for what they are.

Do you know anyone who could let her trail AirPods with an iPhone maybe?????

She might do , she knows a few Mia farangs who all have the latest phones,  does one need to keep the phone on ones person or is there a decent range for the bluetooth connection

Certainly worth further investigation , cheers.

I think the AirPods only have to be in range when you want to make adjustments.....must check that???

If you feel like lashing out she could (I think) control them via an Apple Watch, but you would still need the iPhone anyway to set it all up.

Yes.....no idea re: Samsung.......definitely best to get direct face to face, over the counter help and advice if possible.........certainly safer than listening to me rattle on.....5555

That's quite true I often notice this with children especially when they're quite young they seem to have an inability to modulate their volume or to speak with an appropriate volume level. Thais do tend to speak quite loud, especially when they are on the telephone. I often times have to ask my gal to tone it down, and I explain to her that it's not a megaphone it's a cell phone, and they are two very different things.

If I spoke loudly as a kid I was "shushed" immediately   often with the saying " children should be seen and not heard"   child discipline ...a thing of the past in the west, an alien concept here, especially for boys
