Anyone else having problems doing the Bangkok Bank App ?

Featured Replies

Been to the bank 3 times  so now have to take photo on mobile phone at home , my daughter sets it up for me,

this app is doing my head in ,tried to do it about 30 times ,causing fighting in the house,  you have got to get your

face inside an oval space on the phone , blink your eyes ,turn left ,right , but for me , it keeps saying "Face covering

detected "  " Open up your face "  what  the xxxx does that even mean , in frustration I have cut my beard off ,but it's still

saying that .

I have done the exact same thing at Siam Commercial Bank , no problem ,worked straight away , no problem at all,

I have to get my daughter to do all this , I have a phone (for this App ) but never use it as a phone ,don't like them .

I am 80 years old ,take that into consideration too ,I don't think Bangkok Bank does ,

What does this app exactly do , Transfers , check your balance online , anything else?

OK, change it to BS or rubbish. They have a camera available at every operator.

I have absolutely no trouble with the Bangkok Bank app, except that it’s a bit slow in that the code is not well optimized.

I often think about older people who can’t use technology and how it’s an additional form of disability in the modern digital world.

Sorry I don’t have any advice, except to say that you shouldn’t need to do the face scan thing unless you are doing large transfers and that a part of living in the year 2025 is dealing with changing technology. To the degree that you can’t (or for some people, won’t) it’s another form of handicap.

Tell us more about that, because as far as I'm aware SCB can not activate it for foreigners.

Has that been fixed since?

had to do the same last week, did it at the bank and the staff helped. You have to smile then open your eyes wide and blink 3 times, then smile and then blink plus look left and right. Crazy, now I can use my account after it was blocked.

You don't have to do all of that, just the expressions it asks for. My only complaint with it is that you are concentrating on the centre of the screen to keep your face in the oval, but the facial expression instructions are at the top of the screen. I normally manage to get it done after two facial expression requests.

Not according to my local branch last week so not sure how you managed that - PR perhaps?

I bought a new Samsung phone after 7 years with the old one. But the old phone had an outdated version of Android which did not allow several apps to update.....including BBL app. My AIS app etc.

So, like you, I start to try and activate the new BBL app and had the EXACT same problem as you. (I'm only 75!)

Either my hand wasn't steady enough and/or , without glasses (a requirement) I couldn't read the bl**dy instructions:

# smile showing teeth (impossible)

# blink eyes slowly

# turn head slowly to the left

...etc

Gave up after dozens of attempts (daughter reading out the instructions once I managed to get the solid steady green ring around my face selfie).

BUT it always timed out and back to starting all over again!

Next day, got daughter to both, hold the phone and read the instructions (which last only a few seconds) and finally it worked and I'm in!

As you say, BBL have not taken into account any glasses wearing, aged senior attempting to do this.

Yes I use this app for quick bill paying (amounts due in many cases appearing automatically..eg: AIS, PWA, NT-TOT eBill ) which is much quicker than Online Mobile banking and allows a payment receipt to be sent to WhatsApp etc.

Also transfers to Landlords, wifey, other family members etc are quick and easy and can send a payment verification to LINE etc as per bill payments.

*note transfers over ฿50,000 require the facial recognition full Monty again!!

But it did take an unreasonable time to activate.

I just followed the bank staff instructions, that is what they asked for and thats what I did. Bank branches have differant views on what works, and this worked.

Just did the Kasikorn selfie for a tansfer with my GLASSES ON, sitting at my desk.

No silly demands of blinking, looking left right, smiling and more of that sh!te, just a straight forward selfie

They freeze all the account or you cannot use just the bank app?

If I don't do the face recognition even after the due date, can use ATM as usual?

On the account I have with Bangkok Bank, it is a savings account so no card. Just the app and bank book. Just the app locked. It took weeks to get unlocked, went in first time, did all the paperwork, signed my name many times, photocopy of passport, drivers license. Then told to come back in 3 weeks’ time!

I go back in 3 weeks’ time, more photocopies of license, passport, six signatures and then the face scan. App now unlocked. Have been in Thailand long enough to sit back and let them do their thing, they love paperwork.

On another note, was surprised to see they are using windows 11. Normally not surprised to see banks and goverment departments using windows 7 or XP.

What I'm in some difficulty in understanding is, given that transfers are now, generally speaking, to be limited to a maximum of 50k per account per day by order of the Bank of Thailand, why Bangkok Bank are still requiring all and sundry registering for their app to provide a facial scan. Or might their intention be that each and every transfer from an account of theirs is to be subject to a facial verification check, regardless of the amount involved?

Same here, and now I can't even get the app to open up on my phone for some reason! All very well to be told that we need to acquire a new iphone (as I recall you mentioning on another thread), but why should I be expected to do this, bearing in mind that my existing 4-year-old phone does the job perfectly well in the case of all the other apps I'm interested in?

There again, if Bangkok Bank were to credit my account by the cost of a new iphone...???:whistling:

I've decided that I'll probably hand over my debit card to my wife when and if Bangkok Bank eventually pull the plug on their internet banking service to all and sundry. I really don't want to have anything to do with their mobile banking service as things stand. And, rather than improving, they'll much more likely get even worse over time.

Mobile Banking versions will only be supported on iOS version 14.0 & above and Android version 9.0

Can't comment on iOS but seriously, is there anyone using an Android before 9??

iOS 14 released in 2020.

Requires newer than iPhone 6.

I recently transfered 100k from the app with facial scan performed,

(had extended limit before with facial scan)

No idea what the problems are here.

That’s the problem with crummy Android phones that never get updates.

If you did actually use more apps you would find that the BBL app isn’t the only one failing.

An iPhone 11 released 6 years ago still runs the latest operating system and the latest BBL app. Actually, since the BBL app supports iOS 14, and the oldest phone to support that is the iPhone 6s which was released in 2015, you could be using a ten year old iphone and still not have this problem..
