80 minutes of the Tottenham -v- Sunderland match gone, scarcely a shot, nothing really on target.

Is this the forecast of things to come.

Hope the Hammers -v- Toxin's lot is better. Need lots of bubbles.

And then - in the last few seconds - Sunderland score.

Tottenham were talking about taking over Arsenal's place in the top four.

Performances like this will not do it for them.

And here we have connections to other TV threads

GOAL!!! Sunderland 1-0 Tottenham - Chopra 90 (+3) I hate to repeat myself but UN-BE-LIEVABLE! Just as the game was looking deader than Yangtze dolphin, Michael Chopra pops up to score a debut goal. It was a corker too - first Ross Wallace turned Paul Stalteri inside out down by the touchline, then he delivered a pin point ball to Chopra, who showed remarkable composure to take a touch and then slot the ball past - past three onrushing defenders as well as Robinson - right into the bottom corner. Excellent take.

Guardian report.

Any reason this isn't in the sports forum?

I didn't realise there WAS a sports forum!

Usually confine myself to Pattaya forum, sometimes Su'boom, sometimes General.

That fills my working day quite well - when I'm not having to interrupt it for that four-letter word w**k.

Click here for reports on "real football".. Sorry Humph.. :ohttp://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy

My preferred sport is Rugby Union, 'coz I was born in England. If I'd gone to Oz before the age of fifty, I would have been playing footie. But over fifty years of playing Union has been enough for me. Now I just watch, criticise and say "It ain't the same game as I remember"

When in Pattaya you'll find me watching every footie game on the Australia Network - but I won't be back until October this year.

And the Avatar might give you a clue as to where my sympathies lie.

There's even a dedicated soccer forum Humphrey, where like minded fans can discuss all things about the round ball game. There's even specific threads for each of the more popular teams. :o

Football :

Rugby Football Union

Rugby Football League

National Football League (American)

Australian Football League

Football Association

Football League

So on and so on.

All are football - to distinguish tham we have alternative names

Soccer is played with a round ball by overpaid pansies

Footie is played by Aussies with a lot of Elastoplast on their shoulders

Rugger is played by guys wearing wet suits under their jerseys

Football ('coz the septics can't think of an alternative) is played by steroid munching hunks of beef, and stops every two minutes for a commercial break.

There - is everybody happy?

You'll notice that they are all FROM Liverpool.

No one stays there if they have a chance to get away.

So if I told you that the Port 108 (16:12) had beaten the Hawks 91 (14:7) - would you be any the wiser?

We are talking about world-wide sports (soccer) and enjoyable sports (footie).

But your lot still paid 50 million dollars - OK, so that's not much in proper currencies these days - for an over-the-hill Brit to come and publlicise the game.

And as the US is heading towards a take-over by Mexicans and South Americans - it will soon be the national sport there too. :D

Your national ladies team was world champions a year or two ago, I think. So there's hope for you yet.

Stephen Gerard stayed there.
